I thought I had this nailed but apparently not. Ripped cd's to an MP3 file and sent to a flash drive. Worked in my rented malibu but not in the vette. I used the correct format but apparently none of my usb ports are seeing it......Have I missed something?

What kind of thumb drive are you using and did you categorize the music in folders?
GM's system is quite stupid IMHO. I filled 2 usb's the same way. One works, one will only play 2 songs. I reformatted that bad one, took it out to the car, and BAM....still screwed up. I threw in the cubby, said the hell with it, and use the good one. I wish I could help, but I can't figure it out either.
I loaded all cd's into a separate MP3 folder then ripped them. Moved the ripped to a regular thumb drive. MP3 FAT32. I'm wondering if I should use an sd card instead. Just curious because in the rental, they played right away....
I get the feeling these systems work best with phones, especially Car Play. I have an iPhone 8 (not the current X series). With iTunes Match, my music lives in the cloud, over 13k songs. ITunes Match lets you access your music on up to five different devices, phone, tablet, computer, whatever. Works fine when I plug the phone into the C7 or my wife’s Explorer. Had a Hyundai rental last week with Car Play, plugged the phone in, worked seamlessly. By the way iTunes Match costs 24 dollars a year. Maybe the cost of two flash drives, which according to some on the forum, work or don’t work. And yes I know, Car Play wasn’t available until 2016.

As Yellow2007 says, your USB need to be formatted FAT32 in order to work. Your Infotainment manual lists which formats work:
The USB MP3 players and USB drives connected must comply with the USB Mass Storage Class specification (USB MSC).
. Hard disk drives are not supported.
. The following restrictions apply for the data stored on a USB MP3 player or USB device:
‐ Maximum folder structure depth: 11 levels.
‐ Applicable audio extensions are mp3, wma, aac, m4a, and aif.
‐ WMA and Apple lossless files are not supported.
‐ Supported file systems are FAT32 and NTFS.
On a Mac, MacOS will put hidden files on your USB which will prevent Playlists from working properly without removing them via Terminal or similar program. Other threads discuss this.
The thumb drive was not going to word so I put it all on an SD card and VOILA!!!!!!! I now have titles, song length and all sorts of other track info......
I have had no problems with a 32GB mini-USB drive in the port behind the nav screen. I simply drag the Music folder from the iTunes/iTunes Media folder onto the USB drive and I have it all. There are only the folders for each album and no folders below that. I don't have playlists. It works in both the Stingray and my wife's Honda.
