Just guessing, and not sure why it would happen if you're stopped, but if you are moving along and leave your foot on the clutch pedal with enough weight on the pedal you'll get a message to tell you to let the clutch out all the way. Prevents issues with throw out bearing. I got the message only once, but I was brainlessly floating my foot on the clutch just enough to get scolded

The 2014 to 2017 Owners Manuals listed the following:

Transmission Messages
1-4 SHIFT

This message displays on a manual
transmission vehicle when you can
only shift from 1 (First) to 4 (Fourth)
instead of 1 (First) to 2 (Second).
PERFORMANCE SHIFT
ACTIVE

This message appears when the
vehicle is in Sport or Track mode
and either Performance Algorithm
Shift/Performance Algorithm Liftfoot
transmission modes have been
entered.
SERVICE TRANSMISSION
This message displays if there is a
problem with the transmission. See
your dealer.
SHIFT DENIED
This message displays when
attempting to shift to a gear not
appropriate for the vehicle speed
and engine revolutions per
minute (rpm).
SHIFT TO PARK
This message displays when the
transmission needs to be shifted to
P (Park). This may appear when
attempting to remove the key from
the vehicle if the vehicle is not in
P (Park).
TRANSMISSION HOT — IDLE
ENGINE

This message displays and a chime
sounds if the transmission fluid in
the vehicle gets hot. Driving with the
transmission fluid temperature high
can cause damage to the vehicle.
Stop the vehicle and let it idle to
allow the transmission to cool. This
message clears when the fluid
temperature reaches a safe level.
If this message is displayed during
normal vehicle operation on flat
roads, the vehicle may need
service. See your dealer for an
inspection.
Besides Transmission Messages, the 2014 to 2017 Owners Manuals listed a lot of other messages. The 2018 and 2019 Owners Manual does not have these messages.

Thanks Zymurgy! I will review my Owner's Manual again, but as you indicated I do not recall a list of potential error/problem messages either.

Never happens to me any more--except this one stupid short round-about I hate SO much!
When my Mustang showed a similar 1-4 message, I developed the habit of running the 1st gear RPM up a bit then shifting 1-3-4-5-6, which also works very well in the C7 with its abundance of torque...
One less shift and an ignored EPA-Nanny message

Hey, I finally had a chance to read the mystery message on the Info Center screen (2019 7MT Stingray) before it disappeared. Just happened to be looking at the screen when it says "Manual Transmission...release clutch pedal".

I can't seem to purposely cause the message to appear, but I believe it has to do with holding the clutch pedal in a slightly-released position for some extended period of time. (Red light without the pedal all the way to the floor, or something like that). It may be that the pedal is just slightly depressed for an extended period (something like 30 seconds?). I guess I'm a bit "hurt" for it telling me to change the pedal...been driving MT cars for 50 years and this is the first time the car has chastized me for my technique!

It appears the BCM monitors more than just an "engaged/disengaged" clutch status...something perhaps about the amount of pedal displacement. Anyway, I'll report back if I can figure out exactly how to get the message to display.

That makes sense. The only time I saw that message was the first day I had the car and I was stopped on a hill for a traffic light. It had been over 20 years since I had last driven a manual and I still wasn't used to the gas pedal response in Tour mode (later discovered the throttle is much easier to control and get a smooth start in Sport) so when I saw that the light was about to turn green I depressed the clutch pedal, and started coming off it holding the clutch pedal near the engagement point (I know, very bad thing to do but was my first stop/start on a hill with the car) while I waited for the traffic light to turn, foot still on the brake. It was at some point while I was giving it probably way too much throttle while still on the clutch that the message flashed. Like you, I only saw the first part of it. I have not seen it since the one time on the first day I had the car. Anyway, thanks for getting back to us with what the complete message is. I have no intention of trying to recreate it, though.
