Default Tire plug

Had to put a plug in one of my new Michelin tires today. Hope it lasts!

The proper way to fix a hole is to plug-patch it. This is an absolute truism.

That said, if you don't track it, it will probably hold just fine. What's the worst that can happen? The plug fails and it "deflates" again?

Frankly, what I would do is do the plug, but then take it in and have a proper plug/patch done at your earliest convenience.

Yeah, it's a run-flat... what's the worst it's going to do in street driving? Go flat? Then, deal with it differently, if it does.

Did the same on my GS rear tire a couple weeks ago. Been daily driving from Fort Worth to Irving with no issues. I have a set of tires in the garage ready to go on when I wear these out, so I figured patching wasn't that big of a deal. I'm around 4-5/32 on the rears so probably by fall I'll be changing them out.

I would just see what happens though and as stated, if the tire goes flat again, then get it plugged/patched.

I've used that same "cheap" tool 3 times on 2 C7s with no problems. Didn't remove tires either. Just roll rears fwd to get access & same with frt. but turn wheel sharply to get access. The hole does have to be "slightly" enlarged & roughed up with the tool before trying to push that sticky *** "pipe cleaner" thru the hole. Easy peasy as it's said.

You could have taken it to Discount Tire and they would have done the proper plug/patch combo for free, including re-balance.

At 5000 miles my right rear picked up a screw. I decided to replace the tire with a new one. Total cost; $400.00

"The proper way to fix a hole is to plug-patch it. This is an absolute truism." Who says this? People have been using the plugs for over fifty years with few issues and was the approved method by the tire companies for years until lawyers stepped in to "steal" money from the tire companies. Installation issues arose when incompetent "installers" didn't prepare the hole properly or didn't insert the plug properly.

If having done by Discount Tire etc they will use a "Plug Patch."

That said, I carry this device in my rear compartment, just in case!

Plug is working perfect! I know I could have taken to Discount Tire, but then you risk possible wheel damage scratches.

I've used DIY plugs for years on cars, trucks, and motorcycles and find that they work well if the tar strip is inserted correctly. Basically, just follow the instructions on the package and it should last the life of the tire. Tip: Make sure the strip is inserted all the way into the tread. Haven't tried it on a ZP tire but I understand it works for them, too. BTW, I used the DynaPlug system for a while but didn't get favorable results in some cases, mostly slow leaks when more than one plug was used, so I went back to the conventional tar strip and glue system. I carry one kit and a portable compressor in all my vehicles. Be advised that any repair of this type will only work when the perforation is not in or very near the sidewall.

Default Discount Tire

I got a screw in one of my rear tires with only 4k miles on the car and tires. Had Discount Tire put in the patch plug. They were very careful not to scratch my black rims. They used my lifting pucks. They don't have pucks. They removed the tire, installed the patch plug and balanced the tire. No charge. Discount tire in the best.

I always hang out in the garage with the guys and talk cars with them. Also ask them to be very careful.

One funny thing. As they deflated the tire, my car texted me and told me that my right rear tire was flat! The first text I ever got from a car.
