Only the outer exhaust tips turn black. Why?
I noticed on my Vette, and I assume this is the case for everyone? Only the outer exhaust tips get the black carbon buildup.
Why is this?

I drive in sport mode for the sound and notice the same thing. Whatever the reason is for the tips to be dirty, I just take a minute to wipe the tips with a wet microfiber cloth after every couple of drives and they stay clean.

The outer tips have less muffling/restriction than the inner tips.

Burning Brakes
It is because only the outer tips are actually connected directly to the exhaust piping. Check this thread out it shows you a couple pictures of the inside of an NPP muffler.

Melting Slicks
I have a question. For the first time ever I drove about 300 miles 1 day and my tips didn't get dirty AT ALL!!! Even the outer ones. Why is that? Seems weird, is something wrong going on? Everything seems to be
