I have a 2016 Z51 purchased new with chrome wheels. I replaced the original tires about a year ago. recently I have experienced a slow leak in one tire. that particular tire & wheel have been inspected on three separate occasions by the installing tire dealer. they can not find the leak & have suggested that the problem is with the wheel itself. someone else informed me that GM has had problems with these wheels. Has anyone else experienced this same problem & what was your solution. thanks
Further, not only should your tire store be dunking the tire to see where it's leaking (and leave it in long enough to even find a slow leak---we're not talking about massive hours of labor to leave a tire in the tank of water), they should have dismounted the tire, cleaned off the bead/rim that contacts the tire, checked the bead of the tire itself to see if THEY damaged the tire while mounting it (if it's a runflat which was OE to the car, it's not that easy to mount), and then spun the wheel without the tire on to check the wheel itself for visible issues. In other words, your shop is not doing the job they should for you.
I've had a lot of stores not know what to do, or not want to do the right things. Whatever it is, I've had to search for a decent store and it doesn't stay that way for very long if you're going to a normal "tire store." However, on here I've read almost without exception that one chain, Discount Tire, knows what to do, and does it. Good luck with it.
Could be the valve steam. Make a water soap solution and put it all around the valve and look for slow growing bubbles. Could do the same around the tire/wheel rim on the outside. Worth a try.
If you were not having problems before the tire change, unlikely it's the wheel.
If you have a floor jack, or access to a floor jack, remove and inspect the tire yourself. Check the valve, along the rim, front and back, the treads, and carefully check the wheel for a crack. Use lots of water..
