Default Resale values

I have a 2014 C7 M7 coupe. I have been following the resale value on the KBB website. I expected a big drop when the C8 was introduced. but the resale value hasn't budged. great news. now if it can just maintain its value until the C8 is selling for under MSRP, this part of my life will be good.

When I saw the MSRP I thought there goes the resale value of my C7 when I sell it for a C8. Then I thought, if the C8 had a higher (+$10k - $15K) MSRP making my C7 resell value higher it still comes out the same.

The same is true with houses.

I do not expect the value to drop much more than it normally would. Folks looking to purchase a 3 or 5 year old corvette or any auto are not looking at new. In general, I believe right after purchase you lose 20% of MSRP, 1 year old after 2 years 30% after 3 years 35% after 4 years about 4% after 5 years 45%. After that I would say it slows down a lot. So a 7 year corvette could be just 45% still depending on options.

My thoughts anyway. I would very much to like to have a C8 around 2026 purchase a 2024 or 2025 and at that time trade in my C7. It had a MSRP of 73,000 which I purchase at one year old for 55,000. So hopfully in 2026 I can get half of MSRP so around 36,000. - 2010 2lt z51 corvette is going for around 28.,000

The value you are seeing on KBB or any other website has nothing to do with with a dealer or private buyer will actually give you for your car. Trust me on this one. I sold my 17 Z51 2LT M7 with options a few weeks ago. Every dealer I went to low-balled the crap out of me and their excuse was that the C8 was here so they couldn't sell it for much. They will try you.

A middle of the road equipped C8 will easily be in the low to mid $70's which to a Corvette lover/dreamer will make the C7 look really affordable and a great value. Therefore the prices for C7's will maintain or even rise. The C7 Stingray is an incredible automobile and it keeps the Corvette dream real and affordable.

Private sale values I’d expect to stay decent BUT trade in values went way down about 4 weeks ago.

I've been having a similar issue with my C7 Z06. I'm trying to get into a ZL1 for a year or two while they work the links out with the C8. Every dealer I've gone to wants to low ball be at 5k or so under KBB. Excuse they keep using is "The C8 is changing the C7 market". I'll probably end up keeping my Z06 as this seems to be the norm.

You can't lump all C7s into one general statement. It's the same old story that's been around since forever. Those who are looking at the bottom end of the C7 market are looking to spend in the mid to upper 30s. No way that translates to a new C8. That end of the market is pretty safe for now. But the cars at the higher end of the spectrum, the loaded Grand Sports or Z06, that are looking to fetch in the high 50s or 60s will be competing directly with the C8. That's where dealers will be cautious about the trades they accept.

Resale doesn't matter if you don't sell your cars. I plan to keep all of mine

Deal with Mike Furman. He isn't going to try to rob you like the rest. He's a stand up guy. This whole C8 coming so C7s are worth 5k less is just slimy grimy salesman trying to take advantage. Look at the auctions. Because that's how they gauge your trade. They're full of ****.

People fail to realize that everyone can't afford to buy a new Corvette, there is strong demand for used Corvettes and these are dream cars for lots of people.
