Default Skip Shift override

Hi...I installed the skip shift override module in my C5 15 years ago just after I bought it used, and it worked great from then on. I plan to do the same with my 2019 C7 that I'm getting shortly. Seems to be the same kit that covers C5, 6 and 7 gen's. Just wondering if anyone had any issues putting this into their C7? Thanks!

On my previous C6, I replaced the skip shift fuse with a “shorted or blown” smart fuse. It’s an easy & cheap fix to an annoying problem. The 1 to 4 still lights on the dash but you aren’t locked out of second gear and it doesn’t throw a code. Does that “mod” work on the C7?

When I was originally faced with skip shift in an '11 Mustang, I developed the habit of running up the RPM a bit and shifting 1-3 then either 4 or 5 depending on the situation, and do the same thing in the 'Vette. There is no shortage of torque at any decent RPM, and it saves a couple of shifts to boot.

Maybe the kit, being relatively inexpensive (less than $20) works on the same principle. When I installed it in my C5, it worked the same way you described...eliminates the lockout but still shows the '1 to 4 shift' icon on the dash. A friend of mine with a C4 has never bothered to do the bypass...you can trick it yourself by giving just a bit more gas when the dash light comes on, but personally I can't be bothered having to think about it each & every time, so this cheap fix makes a lot of sense. My understanding is that the same concept works on the C7, but I was interested to get feedback from others who have done this...hence my post. Thanks

I had expected to install an eliminater in my '15 but I find that the skip shift very seldom comes into action. In my gen II Viper it was frequently making me rev higher than I wanted to (rather than shift to fourth) but in the Vette I hardly notice the feature so I skipped the skip shift eliminater.

I have 89,000+ miles on my '15 C7 - there is zero need to put a "skip shift overide" on a C7....

I was going to put a skip shift eliminator in my 2019 C7, after reading about the issue on the forum. but after having the car for 8 months now i've not felt the need to install one. The way I drive the car the skip shift rarely engages, and when it does I just shift into third gear, no problem. it rarely engages though as I think I've just mentally adjusted to driving so that the skip shift doesn't engage.

When I am driving in heavy traffic I get the shift light pretty often. I chose not to adjust my driving style and installed the eliminator. Best 20 bucks I ever spent on the car.

The eliminator just plugs into the end of the wiring pigtail at the transmission. Unplug the harness at the transmission and simply plug the eliminator into the connector. You still get the shift light but the blockout solenoid is not connected anymore so nothing happens.

TO answer the OP's question. No there is no downside or issues. Yes, you could adjust how you drive, but for $20, I don't ever have to think about it.

I went from a 2004 manual transmission 6 speed, to a 2015 manual transmission 7 transmission Corvette.
I had a skip shift eliminator in the 2004, but found it was not needed in the 2015. It's very rare, that it wants me to
go from first to fourth.

Thanks everyone for your advice & experiences...really appreciate it! It sounds like the annoying skip shift doesn't cut in nearly as much on the C7's as I found on the C5. Given the positive experience I had with the C5 override, and as a few of you pointed out...for 20 bucks it's a cheap & easy fix to never have to worry about it again...so I'll be ordering a unit and get it installed when I get the C7 hopefully later this month. Thanks again

Don't bother; save the $19.95 plus shipping. Just drive it like a "sports car" and you'll never experience it. ENJOY!

Unless you get jammed up in traffic. Get the eliminator and forget that the Skip shift ever existed.

I drove without it for four years. It wasn't tough to deal with, but it did get annoying sometimes. I'm happy I finally installed it.

It happened rarely but when it did I found it super annoying. $20 was money well spent to never be forced into 4th.
I bought a manual because I want to select gears myself

I didn't feel the need for one on my C6 M6, but with my current C7 M7 I was running into it more than I would like. I bought one on Ebay for $11 and that solved the problem.
