How long are C7 Stingray batteries lasting in the warm weather states? Mine is three years old and I’m thinking of replacing it soon!

Mine lasted a bit over 5 years, and was never on a tender.

Default Just the Facts

Dry hot weather is tougher on a car battery than cold. Seems counterintuitive, but that is a fact. We live in Tucson where hot and dry is a Chamber of Commerce forecast. Every 3 years is our prophylactic schedule. Could be get 4? Maybe. But saving a few bucks is not what these cars are all about. Chevy Cruze you betcha. C7 not so much.

Battery is under the hatch and under the carpet. Weather impact in warm climates is essentially inconsequential.

Based on other threads there is no real drop dead date. Some have lasted 5 years, others 2 years. Others DOA. I think three years is a good time to replace.

My standard response as this question comes up quite often:

A battery that matches or exceeds power requirements specified by the vehicle's manufacturer, vehicle's charging/starting system has been and is in good condition, battery trickle charged (battery tender) when stored, installed in a vehicle used/stored in a moderate climate (batteries will not last as long in HOT <especially> or cold climate) should last 5-6 years.

Good idea to start looking to replace at 5 years old.

I base this opinion on my owning/operating a chain of auto parts stores over 16 years and buying/selling/warranting literally thousands of batteries over the years.

Here's a good replacement when you decide to do it.

The gold Duralast battery H6-DLG from Autozone is an EXACT match and fit. Its the same case as the original Delco and it has an additional 110 CCA.

I have a 2016 Stingray coupe A8, base 1LT.

Hello Neil,

If you're looking for a battery that will last longer, you should consider replacing it with a Lithium-Ion battery.
They last 2-3 times longer on average, but sometimes even longer. 10 years is not unheard of.

Not only do they last longer, but they are also more powerful and MUCH lighter. You can drop 30 lbs.
So if you're looking to shed some weight too, we have the perfect battery for your Vette.
https://antigravitybatteries.com/pro...tive/ag-h6-rs/

It is a direct replacement, and it comes with full Battery Management System, over-charge and over-discharge protections, thermal protections, etc. And of course, it comes with our RESTART technology (wireless jump-starting) that will ensure you never get stranded with a dead battery again. No jump-starting, no push-starting or time-wasting on a dead battery. Simply press the Restart button on the Keyfob and start the car as usual! And if something ever goes wrong, there are no acids to ruin your engine bay. Plus, you get a piece of mind with our 5 year warranty.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

Regards,

Apples to oranges, but I have a blue top Optima battery in my Cole drag boat. Has been there since day one of my ownership, currently on my ninth season, never trickled, sporadic use during the summer months, sits for 5+ month every winter, spins my 565 like the plugs are out. Will definitely look into an Optima for my Vette when the time comes.

When considering battery life, if the car was bought off a dealer's lot the amount of time it sat on the lot may be significant, as that is particularly bad for them. Checking the driver door sticker for the car's "Born on" date gives an idea of the "real" age of the battery.

Hi...I just got my C7 two weeks ago, but had a 78 and 98 Vette for 15 years each. Live in the Great White North...and my batteries never gave up less than 5 years of age. I'd have to think that down your way it would be a lot less taxing on a battery starting in warm weather.

I have been using Deltran Battery Tenders for over 35 years and had batteries last 10 years. And now i can check my battery status with The Deltran WiFi monitor.

OEM batteries are all over the ballpark from my experience, even in the "same" vehicles driven and treated in the same fashion.

Did it make your terminals turn brown?

I replaced mine when I had the car for 30 months. I didn't want to wait for it to die. Too many of these batteries are fine one day, and then the next day you can't even unlock the car. Batteries are cheap when considering the price of one compared to the inconvenience of being stranded, and, or having to wait for a truck or someone to come out and give you a jump.
I drive mine every day and probably would have got a few more months out of it, but I wasn't going to test it.

Kinda gross but interesting. Does it come in a jar of formaldehyde?

It can get pretty hot even in the interior space if the car is parked in the sun all day. Granted while you are driving it the battery isn’t under the hood which is nice. I think sitting for days uncharged is worse, as it sulfates the plates, so don’t forget the battery maintainer every time you put it away and not driving it, even if it’s just a few days.

I always carry a jump starter (NOCO GB150) in my trunk. Too many times I have been stuck in a Corvette.

Replaced mine at 4 1/2 years in North Carolina. I felt I pushed long enough. I used a battery tender a few times, certainly not all the time.
The OEM battery is 36 month warranty. Bought a 42 month Delco replacement from the dealer. I doubt I'll push this one beyond the warranty. Just not worth getting stuck somewhere.
