For example, when I switch from Touring mode to Sport mode, the suspension is more firm or stiff. What exactly is going on to change the dynamics of the suspension?
The shock oil contains magnetic particles. Different drive modes change the magnetic field around the shocks which causes oil viscosity to change. Higher viscosity = stiffer shocks.
Search "magnetorheological dampers" for more info.
I wondered about that, but my vette doesn't have magnetic ride. According to your response, then it still has magnetic particles in the shocks.
No, and your suspension should not change at all; only throttle response, steering, and the way the Nannies work should change with the turn of the dial.
I have the Z51 pkg, and I am certain that it does not have magnetic ride, but when I switch from Touring to Sport mode, the suspension is a bit stiffer. I will check to make sure. What is the 3 digit code for the magnetic ride option?

Sure way to tell is to open the hood and look at the top of your shocks. If there is a black wire coming out you have magnetic ride.
Aren't electrically adjustable shocks quite common anymore? I don't think you need the GM magnetic ride shocks (which are premium pieces) to get adjustability from the cockpit. Even Polaris side by side UTVs have adjustable shocks. Maybe someone who had had the shocks off the vette can clarify for me. I do know the Z51 option had adjustable shocks between street sport and track settings. I believe mag shocks are an option on top of the Z51.
I'm happy for your Polaris. Corvette C7 adjustable shocks ARE the mag ride shocks. They are black and have a wire coming out of the top. Conventional shocks are yellow. Z51 without mag ride does NOT have an adjustable suspension.

Here is what changes... notice some things are optional.
Also Link to Drive mode must be on, because some of these settings can be overridden with manual settings.
