Have a new 2019 Grand Sport-garage kept-weekend car. Should I be concerned about the bad press on cracked or bent wheels? What are my odds as I see a lot of folks complaining. Thanks
Not thrilled about this. Hopefully GM will figure this out in response to the lawsuit. Probably will be proactive and ask my dealer what their position is.
I thought i just read a post that said 5% of the wide body vettes has issues. I'm praying i'm not one, even though i have wheel and tire coverage from the dealer.
Simple, just factor in the cost of quality, genuine, forged wheels when purchasing the car. One can always sell the OEMs to those in desperate need, since they are seemingly perpetually on back-order from GM... and that, of course, is when GM is shipping any parts at all! Just buy, DRIVE, and enjoy!!!
wrong or right..I went Z51 because of the cracked wheels discussions. I do not regret it really. At least brakes and tires will be a little less going forward.

That makes two of us. At 72 I am too old to deal with GM BS about wheels.
I daily drive my car and cracked 2 bent 1 in 11,000 miles- sitting in the garage and only coming out to be driven to church on sunday ( perhaps 80% of the cars purchased) may impact the 5% statistic. Perhaps a quant would want to take a stab at the data of miles to crack ratio as well as geographic spread. NYC where I live is bound to be tougher on wheels than naples florida where id rather live
The only GS without cracked or bent wheels are the ones that don’t see the street. There is a reason these wheels are on backorder.
17,000 on my GS. 2 cracked rear wheels. I baby my car. The wheels on GS and Z06 are sub par. My new forged Signature Precision wheels should be in next week and on my car. No more problems with wheels...hopefully. Good luck on your GS.
Never thought that I would have an issue, but all 4 of my wheels are out of round. I never hit anything that would cause me to raise an eyebrow. I felt a slight vibration in the steering wheel and heard the front tire whirring. I thought a wheel was out of balance. I took the front wheels to Goodyear to have them checked. They told me my wheel was bent. I took my car to the dealer and they checked all 4 and found them all out of spec for runout. I was shocked. Less than 6K miles on my 17 GS and I am the original owner.
GM Warranty Manual should state they guarantee customer dissatisfaction not satisfaction. When you call customer service, they use some dimwit that knows nothing about cars and won’t let you talk to someone who does. Then when your warranty is denied, they use a lame excuse that the wheel damage is due to “road conditions” then just tell you to they are sorry and basically F off after that. They don’t define “road conditions” or explain how all odds are overcome when 4 of your wheels are out of spec. Then, if you want to buy their weak wheels they can’t even supply them to you or tell you when they will be available even though they want to rip you off for $3,900 for a set of 4.
I believe most victims don’t even know their wheels are bent because anything greater then 30 thousands runout is out of spec. If they are cracked, then your indicator will be loss of air.
Here’s some reading for the uninformed that that shows how much GM cares about it’s customers and my dealer service order below. If you want a wide body C7, you better negotiate another $3K or so off your bottom line price to put toward a set of non-GM wheels.
I think you cannot worry about it if you already bought your car. I knew about it when I bought my 19Z06. But I took the warranty for the wheels. I plan on down the road possibly in the spring I will be putting MRR wheels on my Z. The price for them are not bad or Forgestar. Both brands you can get stock size wheels for about anywhere between 2000 to 2500. The price for them are not bad considering there are a lot more wheels out there for higher cost.

Yes, after years of following issues via the forum membership I can tell the truth vs hype. I have 2 friends that have replaced a total of 4 ZO6 wheels, 3 chrome and 1 black. GM has also ceased to warranty the wheels. What does that indicate? Why do many of us drive in T now for the softer ride? Some say buy new non GM wheels yet otters say buy extra wheels. I say buy wheel and tire insurance. That way your tires are also covered for less money than the new wheels. Be careful where you get the insurance because it’s a gamble whether or not they cover the cracks. GM does not. Dealers are saying you need to lie and tell GM you hit a pot hole in order to be covered. Maximus covers wheel crack damage. Just call them BEFORE going to the repair shop. I’d spend the $.

Parts is parts, defective parts should be replaced. end of story, but not with GM:

The shuddercrack wheel issue is not the reason for being cautious.....it's GM's handling of it and the poor customer service that should scare the **** out of you.

But that may take a while to happen. Found my '16 Z in December of '17. An inspection revealed a crack. The dealer put a new wheel on in March of '18 and I wasn't losing air.
Haven't had any issues since then and I hit a pothole and a construction joint that I thought surely had caused another crack.
Wondering if the robustness of these wheels varies greatly from one batch to the next.
