Certainly what you are going through with your Vette is totally unacceptable. Unfortunately I ma not sure what your options are at this point. Hopefully the repaint takes care of all the flaws and is done in a manner that is as close to perfect as can be.
As for future value I have traded in many cars over the past several years and not once has the dealer checked car fax. One of the vehicles I traded a year ago was in an accident with over 4k of damage. Each time the dealer looks over my trade, miles on it, and makes the offer. Never aN issue and never a car fax check. Now a private sale is another issue, it would scare a few buyers away. But if the paint looks good I would not lower my price.
Good luck.
As long as the paint job turns out nice then the OP has the option of spinning this into somthing good. Private sale it for full retail and say the car was "meticulously disassembled for a show car paint job, and is unmatched in beauty and quality", then show the exact same pictures to a buyer and brag about how perfect it is.

What a mess to be in. I hear all the not hand built and not a lambo and assembly line mass produced car and no car is perfect but my 60+ green backs were perfect when I paid for the car and I for one want a pretty good quality product. U guys that don't have a reasonable expectation for a car U paid good money for then that is Ok but not for me. I came from the nuclear industry (42 yrs) and our expectations were through the roof as they should be, so I am a product of my working environment and that is the reason I am wrapped the way I am. I had a 16 stingray and it had an issue GM couldn't fix and I lemon lawed them and won so I have been there and done that. Hope U get satisfaction brother.

I am also surprised at the acceptance some of the members have. I am also surprised how many Lambo and Ferrari owners must own Corvette's and I don't understand why they do with the way they think about them. My partner has 3 Ferraris and likes the Corvette but would never own one, I myself don't think they are worth the money. I would rather t kind of money in my bank account. To each their own.
I agree that I should not have accepted the car in the rain but that should not make it ok. I trusted the dealer and their was a day that you could. Those day are just about gone, Most dealers are to big to care. What's sad is obviously most buyers here are ok with what the lower than a Lambo car manufacturer producing low quality for 80K. I remember when a new car hit 10K and I thought it was crazy to pay that much for a car. Now years later you should accept low quality at 80k.
I feel for you OP. However, you've hired a lawyer and you're getting it repainted. Several people here, at 2,400, 4,200... and mine at 7200 miles, have had AFM lifters fail. Did I get very upset? Of course. But dealer has the car, replacing all the lifters on that side, along with camshaft and several other parts. Still pisses me off that it happened to my car at only 7,200 miles, but what can I possibly do? They're fixing it, gave me a brand new loaner off the lot to drive and they're calling me every 48 hrs with updates. Whether it's acceptable to me, you or anyone else on this forum is irrelevant. It is what it is, can't change what happened. Ultimately, you and I, and everyone else here signed the dotted line. Just fix it and move on. Maybe I'll vote with my wallet next time I'm buying a car and look at other manufacturers, but for now, this is it.
Back in 2011 I owned a Cadillac CTS that was black. It to had these mysterious “stains”. Buff them out one day only to have them return the next. Mine though were not actually grey but had more of a rainbow tint to them. Think petroleum rainbow. They fell under the category of industrial pollutants. To me it was as if the clear coat was soft and never really hardened. If a bird pooped on the car it would stain immediately. Took me 1/2 hour to buff it out. So to me you don’t necessarily have a paint issue but a clear coat problem. I traded it in after a year. Best of luck! I feel for you.

pretty sure if you showed those pics to buyers, you would never sell it....unless it was at a greatly reduced price.. personally wouldn’t touch it when there are so many others out there.

While you might not buy it, dosnt mean no one will buy it. Many show cars have been disassembled and then reassembled in the most perfect way possible. As far as the reduced price goes, a salvage title car would lose about 40% or so, and this is nothing like a salvage title car. Plus the OP has stated he wanted to trade it in at some point, on a c8 car. This means hes not even going to try to get full retail anyway. So the diminished value here is being greatly exaggerated.

Steve you must have never went through the lemon law process. You have to let them paint it. This car will NEVER be the same as a brand new one and that is what I bought. I have restored cars, worked on cars for a living for years and employ 17 techs right now and we ALL have a top drawer full of left over parts. there is no reason to hate Steve, if your not interested in the post move on.
sorry, but ragging on about a bad paint job and then admitting you have a shop where all your techs have left over parts is kind of like the pot calling the kettle black. I am not saying you don't have paint issues as I am not there to see it, but if I took my car to a shop for work and found out they had left over parts,I wouldn't like that.

You publicly asked for opinions and he gave you one. Perhaps you should retitle your post: What is acceptable? Only post if you agree with me.
BTW, I sympathize with your situation, but you did ask the question. You should be prepared to hear things you don't like.

I feel for you.
I can not see how bad the paint is from the pictures, I am sure it would be hard to understand with out seeing the car in person.
but, if it were my car, I would not be happy. The fact that the paint is not right, and has to be redone is one thing, but the car has also now been “taken part” and reassembled in a shop is another thing.
then, add in the extra bonus of buying a new car that is now in the shop, instead of in my garage where I can use it.... that is also a problem.
then, the icing on the cake would be when it is time to sell or trade the car in, this topic will come up again, and I am sure that it will not be a positive way.
Luckily, the paint on my GS Vert is near perfect (in my opinion) and I am very happy with it.
Good luck with your situation, I hope it works out for you, and you get to enjoy the car.
Sorry man! That's just not right and should never have left the plant unless this whole issue happened during transport or storage at the dealer. Hope it works out for you!
