100% agree. 3M VHB is super strong. Used it on my old C5 to hold a wing on and 6 years later it’s still rock solid.
On my C7, I’m using it along the whole skirt with the front and rear oem bolts and it’s rock solid with no issues. Been on for 2 years at 700 hp and no issues.
Don't listen to the "Use Pop Rivet Only guys", they have no experience using 3M on side skirts! I can tell you first hand I installed mine on my '15 Coupe using 3M tape from Home Depot and they were still hanging on super tight at 78K miles when my local dealer had to break the off because some low rent car wash guy put a gouge in the drivers side door. As for the tape thickness gap; when using the thin tape (maybe .060 thick), the gap isn't enough to worry about unless all your friends are only 10" tall. Good luck and enjoy the ride.
HisVett, In spite of your success using retail consumer quality 3M Double Sided Tape ,
the 3M Tape sold at Auto Body Supply Stores is Superior to the Consumer Grade........
I still say it difficult to install side skirts and get everything lined up perfectly using 3M
Tape..........based on my one time experience installing my FRP ZR1 skirts on my
2012 Grand Sport..........
To be clear Im not saying that the 3M Tape doesnt hold well .....on the contrary...I'm
stating that apply these LONGGGG side skirts to your Vette will be very difficult to
Fit, LIne Up and Get Perfect Fittment using Tape that will stick immediately
A while back i got my Wife a set of yery good kitchen knives.
We have a tile splash next to the stove, where she wanted them mounted. I did not like the idea of drilling holes in 20 year old tile. It has never worked out that well for me.
I got the 3M Supervisor Tape that was rated at 50 lbs. I wiped the tile down with paint thinner, got a level, and attached the magnet bar. It lasted two weeks before it gave out.
Then, I remembered the threads (on Corvette Forum) about attaching the spoiler and other parts with 3M. I got the recommended tape, wiped the splash with thinner, placed it and it fell down in two weeks.
When, I saw the knives on the counter for the second time, I was glad my spoiler had been attached at the factory.
