Same reason Michelin makes winter/snow tires for our vettes: Pilot Alpin PA4
all season tires Pilot Sport A/S 3+
Competition summer P/S cup 2's
Ultra high performance summer P/S 4S
and race car tires only a C7R can get.
Take a 4S out on a 20 degree day (F) and interesting, if not pleasant, things may happen to the tire: (warning, disturbing pictures in this info sheet)
That's very interesting.
We have two sets of wheels/sensors/zp tires for our 2017 Z51 Mag Ride.
PSS for summer, AS3+ for winter; swap out every Spring/Fall.
We have put about 15k miles on each set.
So far we've replaced two of the AS3+ tires (one front, one rear) because of almost identical pothole damage, once last year and once this year, two separate incidents. We too have the Discount Tires road hazard tire insurance, each time it cost us about $45 for the new tire/mounting/balance/insurance.
In the same number of miles, we've not had to replace any of the PSS tires. Since we use the All Seasons in winter, the frost heaves and potholes are worse than in summer, but it still makes me wonder about the robustness of the AS3+. The picture shows how the sidewall deflected enough that it was cut by the rim, tire pressures carefully set 30 psi cold. In each case, the tire did not lose any air pressure!
We take long trips in the winter/Spring and the AS3+ are an excellent touring tire. If I didn't do autocross in the summer, I'd leave the AS3+ on the car all year. We've driven them down to -12'F and in up to 3" of snow.
EDIT: I just noticed that CptCvMan lives only about 30 miles from me, the Illinois roads truly suck. Maybe we hit the same pothole on I-39.
Been running AS/3+ in winter months from the beginning. Bought my C7 in September ‘16. Sidewall bubble yes, but nothing like that...
As mentioned earlier in the post I am scheduled to have the super sport tires replaced next week on my z51 corvette with the As3+ and hoping not to lose to much grip or steering feel/tightness. Did not have this issue with my Audi TT, but different cars.
Watching this video give me some confidence. Michein engineer breaking down the super sport, 4s and the A/S3 In a nutshell the AS/3 has about 90 percent of the grip of the 4s and about 85% of the super sport - when on a track. Daily driving would be less.
Do they make a run flat version? All I’ve found are conflicting reports. Even on Michelin’s website it doesn’t say any of the tires that fit our cars are run flats. This is my only car, so run flats are basically a requirement for me.
How bad do you think my traction would be running PSS in the front and AS/3 in the rear. Reason being, I was stupid and replaced my fronts in May with new PSS. Rears didn’t need replacing at the time. Rears are needing replacing now, and during winter, nights around here get right at 40°. In fact tonight it’s a low of 25°. It’s only a few days a year that cold, but the 40° every night isn’t great for the PSS. My fronts only have 5,200 miles on them. I have the road hazard insurance on them. I wonder if something happened to my tires, if I could switch to the AS/3 in the front for only the cost of a new certificate?

They make a run flat for the z51 - I think they come only in run flat for GS or it is the other way around. I would never put two different tires front and back...I do this because I cannot explain why not it just does not sound like a good idea. Yep, mine have a good 10,0000 miles left on them...just the price we have to pay.

I found they make the run flat for my Z51. It shows up on the desktop site, but not the mobile site for some reason. I wonder if I can sell my PSS tires and maybe recoup some cost towards the AS/3's.
Last time I looked, the AS3+ was available in both run flat and non-runflat versions for base 18/19 and Z51 19/20 wheels.
For GS/Z06, only runflats.
Just go to the Tire Rack website and input your model to be sure.
Having the AS tires on only one end can cause handlng issues. Think about what conditions will cause one type to have more grip and compare that to how you’ll drive.

This is what I plan to do. My PS3s are going on tommorrow. Bye bye runflats. I ll be selling my OEMs.
A/S 3+ great tire in my experience. Tire rack testing show them to be very close to the 4s in performance and as good or better than other max performance summer only tires.
The previous owner of my C6 put them on and I thought I would be missing out on a bunch of traction being all-seasons but I've been very pleasantly surprised with the A/S 3+ and the level of traction they provide.
Thank You for the responses. I have decided to sell the OEM Z51 tires. What would be a fair price, for both buyer and seller, for the OEMs? They will have about 2K on them when I make the switch.
Hello there!
In my opinion, search the internet for the best price for a new set of your oem tires you are selling. Since you have only about 2,000 miles on them, they are still fairly new. But as such they are not new. So with that said, take 100 dollars off per tire from the best price you can find on the internet, and offer them up for that price.
Even if you sold the set or each individual tire at 50% value of a new set, that is a profit, and would help to offset the price of the new A/S tires that you may purchase.
Again, this is only my opinion. I wish you luck regardless.
PS. I installed the Michelin All Season AS 3 Plus tires on my 2016 Stingray and am extremely happy with the results. They will be Zero Pressure ZP <-- rated which are Run Flats. Different manufacturers call run flats different names.

How does the road noise compare to the PSS? I’ve noticed that going down the tollway(speed limit is 80mph), it seems almost like I have to yell to talk to somebody in the car with all the road noise. I have a 2016 Z51 without MRC. I’m hoping that maybe the all season tires will help. I’m not married to Michelin, so if there’s a better tire that would cut down on the road noise, I’d definitely look into it. I know getting rid of the RF’s would probably help a lot, but I just can’t.

I had the AS3s mounted on the car. I drove home last nite in 25 degree temperature. The Z51 felt very planted. Now, I have a set of almost new, six week old OEM tires for sale. If interested send me an E Mail at analbone@live.com. Thanks
