The 2016s have a different interface and CarPlay. Different type of data base or something?
Not only CarPlay but Android Auto too. The "database" is essentially in the cloud in near real time, and, cost you $0!
Before you retort "Yeah but what if I don't have internet access" the answer is, at least with Google Maps under Android, you can download mapping data for offline use. In fact, if you're planning your route from Google Maps on the web say on your desktop, and send that to your phone for use with AA, GM will suggest to you to download mapping data if your route goes through areas which are known to have spotty coverage. Traffic data, however, is dynamic and occasionally you'll get that traffic data is not available because your phone is offline.
BTW: There is no offline maps for Waze that I know of. Strike that! Apparently there is a way (https://android.gadgethacks.com/how-...droid-0180516/) but it sure seems klunky at best. Update, apparently this option is no longer offered...
Reading this thread, it would appear that my '14 is updated as far as it can be updated for the NAV system? Is that correct? That would really suck if that is the case.
I just updated my 2018. Took about 50 minutes and I drove around while it was updating. I tested an it now sees the new bridge. Some of you might know the bridge....since many of you might have taken to get to the NCM. The one which connects south Indiana and Louisville ky. worth 100 bucks. Also, downtown Louisville is now avail in 3d.
