Default Grrrrr. rear hatch

So, the rear hatch has started acting up. You use the key or the dash button and the hatch pops just a little, then sucks itself back down again. Takes 10 to 20 attempts to open it. Its only a 2016 so the gas struts should still be good, and in fact they lift the hatch with no problem. Anybody else had this, and if so, what fixed it?

Thanks

I will look at mine later, but it seems there is a switch/sensor out of adjustment. Hopefully it is a quick fix.

When others have mentioned this problem on the forum the fix was to lubricate the weather stripping for the hatch (generally a dielectric type of grease is used for this purpose) to prevent it from sticking to the body of the car. If that doesn't fix it... perhaps it's a problem with the latch itself needing some adjustment?

Yup. I have to use a silicon spray every other month when the temps get cooler. The weather stripping sticks.

Lubricating the weatherstripping is certainly a cheap and easy first step to solving the problem. If that doesn’t work, then look at other possibilities. Good luck and hope you can avoid a trip to the dealer.

Before you open the hatch.. crack a window or open the door to relieve interior pressure so it doesn't suck back down.

This worked for mine. I would hit the button, it would unlock but not pop up enough to get your fingers under to lift up. Once the weather stripping was cleaned and greased it popped right up. In fact the dielectric grease has worked so well I have not needed another coat in over a year. My 2014 doesn't have the power pull down so once it unlocks you are more or less forced to figure out a way to open it since you need to slam in back down (with the doors open) to make it lock down again. Very annoying

3634770 may be discontinued or GM changed the part number. I bought some a couple years ago and it works great but for some reason the stuff is high as cats back. Around $50!

I would imagine any dielectric grease should be fine. I actually use Honda ShinEtsu dielectric grease because there is still a ton of it left in the $10 tube that I bought years ago for my S2000.

I think there are a lot of good products out there however I am superstitious. Yes yes I know, it’s bad luck to be superstitious! That’s why I went with the super expensive GM rubber treatment. If something doesn’t work then you will know because you will be buying new weather stripping. Oh but to have the magic Corvette crystal ball...

The good experiences and input is what makes this forum great!
