The elsd keeps you accelerating forward but it shifts the power left side/right side being mindful of your steering angle that you gave it. The net result is you go in the direction you want, but the "feeling" is unnerving.

At track speeds, the same thing happens at the limit so experiencing it at lower speeds due to colder temps can take the fun out of driving it. With cold tires, contaminants on road like oil and dirt and a few feet separating you from other traffic/curb/ditch and parking it was an easy decision.
Very interesting. I guess if you actually turned off the traction control you wouldn't be facing these issues...but to me that sounds like a scary thing to do.

The last Vette that I had without traction control was my 78...it had mechanical LSD (as did my C5 and my current base model C7) but nothing else. But even though it was the most powerful motor that year (5.7L L82) it only had 220 HP! I actually drove that one all year round into the city to work & back daily, on summer radials...and once in a while it would slide a bit but not much if you drove it reasonably.

Cool storage unit...I could use one of those so that we could get our 3rd vehicle inside the double garage, but I don't think our ceiling is high enough.

That's a sweet IROC-Z by the way

I'm not advocating anyone should drive their vette in the winter if they don't want to. I put a set of PA4's mounted on Cray Spiders when I ordered her in 2016 (I probably would have done the AS3+ if they were available). I take my SUV when there is snow etc, but still enjoy a few thousand KM's in the cold each year.

Same here. Plenty of opportunities to drive on bare, dry, cold roads in the winter. Longest I've ever gone without driving it in the winter in 4 years is about a month. I have the same winter tires but when they are worn I will likely get the A/S for winter because I'm not driving on snow like I planned.

The only snow my C7 will see is from the garage doorway when it's opened to let my Mercedes Benz E320 CDI turbo diesel sedan in and out of the snow in Texas.

My new 1977 L82 had 220hp as well. It of course had the limited slip rear differential. An extremely capable car to drive in winter surfaces. Never a problem driving in Nebraska and surrounding States in the winter weather.

Cool...some good memories in the C3...had it for 15 years. The 4-speed manual helped in slippery weather as you could start it off in 2nd gear. But with no o/d and a 3.7 rear end, it revved way too high...hence I didn't drive it much past 60 MPH...even then it was up at 3,100 RPM. My C7 with the 7-speed revs at 1,100 RPM at the same speed...insane!

Yeah, they're really great. Especially when you get flat tire! And getting out in the snow and ice to get the tire going again with a patch kit is even better.
