What has to be done with the rotors before putting these after market pads on?
Assuming your rotors are in good shape-not worn out or grooved, you need to clean off the old semi-metallic pad residue. You should lightly sand with 150 grit sandpaper then wash the rotors off. I used alcohol to clean them since alcohol does not leave any residue. The new ceramic pads will put a layer of material on the rotors during break-in.

Thank you. There is no need to bleed the break lines etc when just changing pads correct?

"layer of material on the rotors during break-in." Does this go away after time or do the rotors take on the black ring forever with ceramic pads ?
Just take your master cylinder cap off to allow for expansion. You probably will have to push caliper pistons back. Put some towels around master cylinder in case fluid flows out. The ceramic coating on rotor is not visible. Rotors actually seem smoother than before with the semi-metallic pads. Thanks
I have Hawk Ceramics on my 16 Z51, 17 GS and 15 Camaro SS. Very happy with the Hawks.
Think these are the ones for my 2017 GS: HB727Z.592 Disc Brake Pad and HB649Z.605 Performance Ceramic Brake Pad
Ordered thru Amazon, but you might want to check TireRack also.
I also have a set of Hawk Ceramics on my 16 Stingray Z51, and love them! In addition, I have an '03 50th Anniversary coupe that I put Hawk Ceramics on immediately after taking NCM delivery on Dec. 20, 2002. They still have over half of the pad remaining, great stopping power, no noise, and most importantly, minimal brake dust. The C5 does have a 6 speed manual, so minimal brake usage. I doubt if I ever have to replace the pads on the C5.

After my small setback with 1 pad in backward, I drove around today and no noise, seems like good stopping power, and absolutely no dust!
Good post. Practical information.
Will be buying pads soon...but was thinking to get the brand from "the guy who is posting his over priced ceramic pads everyday." I mean, yes, they are expensive, but they're just as good as Hawks and Powerstops, at least, correct?
Have a 2019 Grand Sport with iron rotors and am tired of all the brake dust. Besides the guy who is posting his over priced ceramic pads everyday, any recommendations-Hawk? Powerstop? Others? Best dealer? Just looking for a good set of ceramics for the street. Thanks in advance.
How do you know if the 2017 GS has steel rotors or carbon ceramic?
