To me, it is all about the person providing the service. I had my daily shipped out to GA (company paid for it, so no choice in the carrier), Delivery was supposed to be 3 days from CO to GA, as the truck was based in GA and heading home. Car was loaded and driver departed, I was behind the truck for the first couple miles as I was going in the same direction, had to call him to let him know the trailer was dragging and sparks were flying behind him; he commented that it would level out. I booked my flight to land in Atlanta one day after the car was to arrive. I called the company upon landing and they told me the truck had broken down in KS and no idea how long it would be. I rented a car at ATL airport for my two-hour drive east. I ended up having to extend the rental for two weeks because that is how long it took for the truck to arrive. I got the call that my car was in and that I could pick it up and the truck company would be so nice to have someone pick me up at the airport rental car drop off. I arrived to pick up the car and low and behold it is parked in a dirt parking lot and completely covered in dust/dirt. You can bet, I didn't tip a dime, but I did say thanks for the ride from the airport. It took them a month to send me a receipt to provide for my company for billing purposes.
I just bought my '68 Road Runner back (sold it in 2013), car was loaded in the front top just north of Boston and spent 3400 miles there (never got moved) back here to NorCal, gave the driver $100 and a tin of fresh peanut butter cookies the wife made him, he was appreciative.
Tipped the driver $100.00 when I got my 96 GS. He had to fight through a snow storm and icy roads in early April to get to Yooperville and took good care of my baby. Well worth it!!
