Not a newbie, 3rd vette, first Z06. Got my lunch handed to me by a “Volvo” this evening. It is 55 degrees and I can not hook-up to save my life, stock cup 2’s. New rims and tires are on order.

Thats why I say you really don’t need more than 300hp for the streets. On the street, it doesn’t matter how much power you have as much as traction.

Stuff happens - the Volvo was on tires more suited for the cooler weather. At the end of the day, you still have a Corvette and the other guy has a Volvo.
I been a corvette owner for a while but how predictable is it that if you try and pass a corvette on the road for some reason most of the corvette driver will think your trying to race them and take off
You have to learn how to put 625HP to the ground effectively
625 HP, 50 degree cold cup tires = your driving on ice... I believe a Kia could have passed you with no issue.... Around 70 Degrees it would have been fun.. Get a set of wheels with AS3+ AS tires on them for the winter and then you will have traction down to 0 degrees

Cup tires suck in the cold temps. They need to be warm to work. This is why I love the AS3 plus. Much better in temps below 75 on the street.
Some of the Volvo wagons can haul. Especially the R models. The AWD system lets them put what power they have to the ground and that's probably what you ran into. They're heavy and typically under-"tired' so they would likely be of no concern at the track. Randy Pobst, who has recently been testing the c8, has an odd soft spot for Volvos.

Why do dragsters do burnouts on the dragstrip? Hot tires have better traction. Your "grippy" tires are almost frozen at 50 (as far as the cup tires are concerned) and you will not have any traction until they warm up.
