I am looking for some projections here. I have a new C7 M7 in my garage. I also have a new right shoulder replacement . What can I expect , time wise, before I can begin to enjoy my standard shift convertible again ? Anyone been through this procedure lately ?
Huh? Each and every person's recovery is different to a degree. Even a physician here would tell you to consult your own doctor and not judge your situation on whatever some wonk reports online, here or anywhere else. Or, at least they should..
No history of shoulder surgery myself but I have two friends that had rotator cuff (it’s not “cup”!)surgery. 🙁 I’d say at least six weeks before the possibility of shifting a manual.

My right arm was partially paralyzed in an accident (greatly improved now). I drove my manual transmission cars with my left hand and shifted by briefly letting go of the wheel. Easy. (And yes, one must be careful and thoughtful.)
Just trying to get a jump on it. Seeing the surgeon Monday the 30th. .Pre-op guestimates were all over the place from 4 weeks to 4 months and total recovery stretching way longer. Right now I'm playing the waiting game as there aren't many/any exercises I'm allowed to do yet.
Your age, overall health, and past experiences (history) can make a world of difference with any prognosis, apart from the surgery itself.
If you are still confused after your consultation, don't hesitate to say so, and if still such (not that anyone can be too exact, mind you), get another professional opinion. The biggest issue I've seen in such cases is that patients/clients/consumers do not prepare their questions/conserns in advance of their appointments and/or fail to speak-up when they meet with their professionals. Don't be one of those!
Recovery varies by individual. I had shoulder surgery to clean up the joints to get rid of the arthritis that was keeping me from moving my arm. A co-worker who was a pilot and about 5 years younger than me had similar surgery about 2 weeks before I had my surgery. I finished my surgery and the physical therapy and had full use of my arm within 4 weeks, 6 weeks after I was done he was still in physical therapy and couldn't raise his right arm high enough to pass his pilot's physical.
The reason I irresponsibly asked my medical question on a car form is because the demographics here suggest there would be several people in my age and status in life who might have gone down the same track.
If there was a history of people "recovering" between 4 and 40 weeks, that would give me a range to use to temper my expectations, regardless if I was exceptionally quick or slow. Some of the previous posters are making it much more than that.
I'm going through the same sort of situation. Went to the first surgeon and he said cut, cut, cut. I called a friend that's a therapist and per their advice went to another surgeon. He suggested therapy first. Said there was nothing to lose but a little time and if that didn't fix it I could always have the surgery. I had a stem cell treatment on my shoulder and will start pt in 2 weeks. Both surgeons said if I had surgery there'd be 6 weeks in a sling and 3-6 months of therapy to return to close to normal. Good luck with your situation.
I had a 100% tear in my right rotator cuff at age 62. From time of surgery until I felt comfortable driving my M7 was almost 3 months. Everyone’s results will be different based on age, overall physical condition, etc.

Some people have friends on this forum. This is a kind of question you ask a friend. It's not the kind of question you ask a jerk though. Hopefully the answers from people that are being friends outweigh the ones from those that aren't.

it's actually the kind of question you ask a doctor. And to be honest, only a doctor. Some "friend" says "oh, go drive today!" and the OP damages his shoulder, just not smart. No one on here knows the extent of the OPs medical, friend or not.
Love you guys, but some of you are a PITA. The guy’s miserable, just had surgery. Can’t you give him some hope? He’s not asking you about medication or changing his bandages. Just help him out a bit, he’s asking how long it took you to drive stick
