1 left rotator, 3 right rotators and looking at shoulder replacement right now. Yeah yeah, I'm tough on shoulders!

4 weeks in a sling minimum for each surgery. 12 weeks in rehab. First rehab is 2 days after surgery. You won't get weights until the sling comes off, only range of motion exercises. You'll get to 1 pound weights in week 10. So, when can you drive? You can drive when you can do weights and there is no pain in your shoulder.

And that boys and girls is why I have the A6 in my 2014. I'd have gotten the Manual but rowing the gears when my shoulders are falling apart is not an option. I could drive after 2 weeks but I had to remove my sling and slap that sucker back on when I parked and got out of the car.

I hope you heal quickly. At 75 years and 341 days on this good earth, each surgery takes longer to recover.

Good luck,

Elmer

W/ car on a maintainer time's on your side.
About to embark on a similar journey for a new hip, told 6 weeks.
It's Winter's here so mine's on a maintainer anyway.

It's all about how things heal while under a physician's care + PT, everyone's going to be different re recovery time.
G/L w/ a new right shoulder & no more pain, whatever the wait it'll be worth it in the end.

Default End of the thread

For the majority of those who read this thread and the few who offered good advice and suggestions this is all done. Today is the 30th day anniversary of my surgery and he is where I stand.

Virtually no pain from day two onward.Started off site physical therapy yesterday. My strength is coming back on a daily basis as is my range of motion. I have been cleared to drive, even my stick shift cars. The sling is a thing of the past. For anyone on the fence about shoulder replacement I would recommend it 100 %. Bob C.

I broke my humerus (upper right arm) several years ago. I just held the wheel with my bad arm and shifted with my left arm... across my body. Might not be the safest option but I was in a cast for quite a long time and simply needed to get around. You'll get used to doing a lot of "stick shifting" with your left hand.. why's the manual transmission any different?
