Default Engine noise

I have bought my first c7 stingray. It's a base convertible. The car has 13000 miles ac and it's a 2016. The day I bought it sounded fine but it was 70 degrees. Now it is 38 degrees and it's making a noise when it's running. It sounds like the valve train is very loud. Is this somthing that is normal on a c6. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for reading.

Without hearing a recording it is difficult to answer but if you hear a clicking that sounds a bit like tappet noise it could be your high pressure fuel pump. They are noisy on C7's.

Well, it's kinda normal at idle, if you are hearing it while it's on the road, that's another matter.

The ticking noise is the main control solenoid on the high-pressure fuel pump and is a result of the high pressure at which the direct-injection fuel system operates, about 1750 psi (port injection operates at ~ 45 psi).

I find the engine to sound a bit like a diesel.

Thanks for the help. That's right sounds like a diesel. This morning I got a diagnostic report from onstar that said I had a problem in the Engine Transmission that needs imidiate attention. Take to dealer.

Is there any fix or help for this. Dont mean to ask a stupid question but my first C7 and I dont like the noise. When windows up and just cruising it is loud inside the car.

It is possible there is something wrong and what you are hearing is atypical. Ask the dealer when you take it in. I suggest also checking to learn if they have a used C7 you can listen to, checking for the noise.

Normally the noise is not all that loud. You should not be hearing it inside the car with the windows closed or while driving.

Please report back and let us know what you learn.

No sir, there's no fix for the injector noise. However, if it's that loud inside the car you may want to have it checked. And as a reminder, these cars also have quite a bit of road noise also. As stated it's hard to diagnose a problem without actually hearing in person. Good luck, I hope it's nothing serious.

You shouldn't hear injector chatter while driving. At idle yes. I'd have it checked out. Post a vid if you can.

Post a sound clip (or sound video) so we can hear it. We can then tell you if it’s the same normal sounds we all hear or if an irregular sound.

Ok I couldn't figure out how to get the videos posted but I did talk to a couple of vette people and they listened and said that is typical lifter noise from the LT engine fuel management system. My question is if I buy the plugin that goes under the dash that is supposed to keep the car from going into 4 cylinder mode will that help the valve tick some. Sorry I forgot what that plugin is called right now but it cost about 200 dollars. Thanks again guys.

If you have a YouTube account you can upload the video there then post the YouTube link here given many of us would like to hear it.

The Range Technology device will stop it from going into 4 cylinder mode but will not help the valve tick.

You're referring to the range device that is used when you have an A-8 transmission. I don't know if that will help or not as I have a manual.

If it is valve tick does that mean it wont make noise until it warms up because I just drove it and it made no noise until the temp came up on the car about 3 miles then you could hear it. I will try to upload videos.
