Anyone know why the remote start doesn't work sometimes? I would hit the lock button on the key fob and hold down the button to perform the remote start but sometimes it doesn't start the car. Anyone know why? It seems that the key fob itself is working because I can lock and unlock the car just fine, but sometimes the remote start doesn't work. I keep the key fob in my room at home so the fob itself isn't cold. I did notice that the remote start function doesn't work as much when it's colder outside so could the weather be the issue? I also noticed that sometimes when the remote start doesn't work and manually start my car, the "check engine light" is on and turns off when the car is started. Is that another issue I should be worried about or is that normal? Thanks!
When the car starts, all of the dash lights come on to show you they are functional. Then when the car starts, they go off and will come back on to indicate a problem. If the SES light does NOT stay lit, you are not throwing a code.
Even though the doors are opening with the FOB, a cheap test might be to replace the batteries in the FOBs and see if the problem persists.
The remote start will not operate if any of the following occur:
. The ignition is in any mode other than OFF.
. The transmitter is in the vehicle.
. The hood is not closed.
. The hazard warning flashers are on.
. There is an emission control system malfunction.
. The engine coolant temperature is too high.
. The oil pressure is low.
. Two remote vehicle starts have already been used.
. The vehicle is not in P (Park).
Thanks for all the input! Really appreciate your guys' help. I did not know that you can only perform two remote starts in a row until you have to manually do one. I usually do try to start my car everytime via remote start so I think that may be the issue. I will test it out and update the forum.
This literally just happened to me. The remote would unlock the door as usual but the remote start began to not work. 2 weeks later the battery was dead in the FOB. Got out the spare and no issues.
It also won't start if the fob was close enough to cause the triple honk when you exited the last time, or if their was any theft attempt (inclination/intrusion alarm).
My 19 also intermittently does not remote start using fob or app. My 15 Yukon Denali did same. None of the issues detailed in the manual applied. Since it only happens about 10% of the time I haven't pursued investigating it. I did notice at least once it remote started with the app after it would not start with the fob. New fob battery has not helped.

I've had 3 GM cars with remote start and they work flawlessly and from over 300 feet away! I use the fob to perform the remote start.
