My original post on this ended up in the car care section I screwed up some how and dont how to remove it. Anyway my 2015 had its cherry popped today. we were exiting a parking lot and was stopped at a stop sign. A gentleman in a 2020 Subaru Outback struck the left rear of the Vette. He was probably going about 2 mph. So the left rear section of the bumper broke off, the cooler on that side was bent and there was a small scratch on the left rear quarter panel. Im thinking maybe $4k in damage. He didnt have any damage as I think his tire hit the bumper since he was turning right to get out of the parking lot. Oh well things happen It will be taken in next week for repairs and be good as new again life goes on

No it wouldnt and why scream at very apologetic gentleman. Its why we have insurance. He didnt do it on purpose his car was a brand new and Im happy he didnt have any damage. The accident happened at 130PM I called my insurance co right after. I had places to be. I called his insurance at 730PM talked to them they called their client 10 minutes later called me back accepted responsibility Im set with the repair and a car rental but asked if the would get me a GT 350 since its Hertz. they laughed. Getting angry and not being courteous to the gentleman and his insurance I may still be waiting to hear from them. Im to old to worry about some small damage to a car. It will be fixed and I will be back driving it soon and I kept my anger and BP under control
You are taking this a lot better than a lot of folks would.
Why stroke out over some minor damage to the Vette it can be fixed. Its still drivable I got home about 20 miles no problems his insurance will fix it no arguments all settled. Now if GM has a rear bumper and cooler is the problem
Don't forget to as the insurance company for "Diminished Value" as this should show up on Carfax. Save your pictures for future sale if needed to validate the damage for the next owner.

Your still lucky.....Clean hit.
I am already at diminished value car has almost 82k miles.
Sorry about your accident. I’m amazed at the amount of your damage. I just bought my 2019 a month ago and two weeks after I got it, while attending the Barrett Jackson Carshow in Scottsdale a guy opened his door into my fender and put a ding in it. Luckily I was on my way to the car when it happened and I saw the whole thing. Took it to the dealership for an estimate and couldn’t believe it was $1200. The guy that hit it requested a second estimate and it came in at $1400. These cars are very expensive to get repaired. Good luck on your repairs.
Yes they are expensive to fix. Fortunately my parts should be available from what I have seen online. Looks like your ding got deep into the plastic. Ill bet that guy is more careful when he opens his door
Since we are in the age of Carfax you can deal with the fact that your car is now worth less than before the accident. It is a recognizable claim to be made with an insurance company and they now have calculations on which you make an entirely separate claim (ex: we were rear ended in my wife's 2013 Prius). I made a Diminished Value claim with their insurance company, was transferred to a specific person. I asked for 1000 bucks (this was about four years ago when D.V. was more nebulous) and they offered 500. We settled on 700 bucks IN ADDITION to the cost of repairing the car. It is real, it is legitimate.
Well, the bumper cover is just a piece of flexible plastic, not surprising that it would peel right off when pushed from in front by a car weighing more than 3000 lbs. Even at 2 mph there's a certain amount of inertia involved..
I don't remember a million man march on washington to revoke 5 mph safety bumpers, but I can point to a smoking gun to their revoking by the NHTSA:
Vehicle Obesity
The list of negatives associated with these monstrous devices seems endless. Not only are they ugly, ineffective, and costly, but their added weight creates its own chain reaction of dysfunctional attributes. General Motors confirms that the federally mandated bumpers alone add approximately 250 lbs. to the weight of a full-sized Chevrolet and 150 lbs. to a compact Vega. https://reason.com/1978/03/01/billion-dollar-bumpers/
And look at what the pot (belly) brags while calling the kettle black!
The 1973 Corvette featured the first major appearance change since the 1968 Corvette redesign -- a new nose treatment for both the coupe and the convertible. In styling at least, technology was beginning to find answers to federal mandates, and the Corvette had an ingenious solution for the new five-mile-per-hour front-impact protection rule applied to all automobiles that year. A steel bumper was covered by deformable urethane plastic that was matched to the body color. It added only about two inches to overall length and 35 pounds to curb weight. Even better, it would bounce back to its intended shape after most any kind of parking-lot bump. Better still, it looked terrific.
Only 35 lbs for 5mph safety bumpers, eh?
But after getting the "irritating" bumper regs revoked, GM did just fine porking up the Vette all by themselves.
