So I just picked up a "new to me" 2015 Z06 and experienced a weird "popping" or "slapping" noise from the left front wheel when I am reversing and turning the wheel to the right. I have read multiple threads on the Ackerman effect but it doesn't sound like what I am experiencing. This happens when I am making a slight turn in the wheel and it kind of sounds like if someone were to pull back a piece of plastic and let go of it suddenly. Any ideas? I have uploaded a video of it happening. It sounds a little different in the video than in real life but you get the gist.
I am kind of a rookie to the C7 Corvette's, have just had mine a few months, but that does not sound normal to me. When first driving my car at low speed and turning in either direction, there is a shudder or skipping that you can feel that did not feel normal and seems like there was an occasional popping sound but don't think it was that loud. Does it do it when turning in both directions or just when you turn to the right?
As far as I can tell it’s only when I’m turning right. I checked around the wheel well and everything appears to be fitting tightly and nothing is hanging off.
That is not normal at all. Have you turned the wheel to the right and gotten out to see if something might be catching somewhere? The ackerman effect is just the tires feeling like they are slipping on pebbles.
Just went down and tried my so see if it had the loud pop like yours did. It is cold weather here, 40 degrees, and did not drive it to warm up tires, but I could not get mine to do that loud pop in either direction. I did not turn the steering wheel and put it in an extremely hard turn, but did not have the popping noise.

I looked and nothing really obvious stands out. I guess my next step would be to take the wheel off and see if anything is loose or hanging that might be catching on the tire. Any other suggestions? Ive got no issues going forward.

Are the wheels stock? Do you feeling anything in the steering wheel when it makes the noise? Seems if it was in the wheel or suspension you would feel something.
That sounded like a single loud pop... not at all like the continuous chatter/hop noise of the Ackerman effect. It sounds more like something is getting caught and suddenly popping back into place in your video. If you have a safe place to lift the vehicle, just get under it and start looking for any loose bolts, plastic panels, etc. If you can get the service history of the vehicle from a dealership, it might give you a clue of where to look based on previous work that was done.
I have seen on a 2019 the bolt to the rod from the steering that connects to the wheel was just loose. You should be able to find some play in the wheel when it is off the ground. Things are normally very tight so dont be afraid to jerk on it real hard. You will be no where as to the load the weight of the puts on it.

I don't disagree w. doing the above, but just be careful getting under the car. Have at least two ways of holding the car up (lift and supports/stands) esp. if you're going to do like poster fireb1rd says and "...jerk on it real hard." Don't want anything, like your car, rolling off one stand or one jack onto you! Wheel chocks, too, if necessary.
I also don't think that is even close to a normal sound. Good luck and come back and tell us what it is/was.

Sure does not sound normal. If you find out what it is, please post it up in this thread so others can have a reference in case they run across the same symptoms.
This sounds like either a loose sway bar link bolt or the lower spindle ball joint is loose. Those can pop like that if loose (I found that out in my C5 days).
That sounds just like my car did after I installed an aftermarket set of brake cooling ducts that connected to the stock ducts from the front of the car and distributed air to the rotor. The aftermarket ducting system consisted of an air box that fastened to the frame, connected to the end of the stock brake ducts coming from the grille and had hoses exiting the air box that directed cooling air to two spots on the rotor. When the tires were turned hard one way or the other they would catch the duct installed in each front wheel well and make similar popping noises.
The front wheel hop is more of a grinding type of noise as the tire skitters sideways across the surface and it will make the car vibrate as the tire catches, slides, catches, slides, etc.

yep, loud plastic slapping sound. check panels, and anything that might be getting near the control arms or the rotor. look for rubbing/witness marks since you cant just turn the wheels back and forth with the car off the ground, they'd be hanging well below where they normally are in the wheel wells.
Hand similar sound from only left wheel on hard right turn.
Tried many things. Finally found it was the brake cooling duct hittin a wheel weight on the far inner side of rim.
Took a year but when I had the wheel off saw the top edge of wheel weight warn! About 6 months later, the noise, which was reducing went away. Combo of weight and plastic wearing away. Mine sounded more like a playing card in a bike wheel but only made sound once each revolution. Had trimmed oThe potential plastic and removed, cleaned retorqued wheels several times trying to fing the minor issue!
