I have a 2017 GS A8 transmission with 32,000 miles and not one issue. After reading you guys post I will start using my Range Technology AMF disabler more often. I previously disconnected it because of the battery drainage.

if your Range device is draining your battery that means you have an old program in it. I'm pretty sure Range will update the program for free. I have zero battery drain.
40K miles and no problems. I have a 2009 G8GT with AFM, and I did have lifter failure at 113K miles, but it was more that the roller lifter had rotated in the plastic holder and wiped out the cam, rather than lifter failure, and GM had a bulletin about the failure of #7 cylinder lifter failure. Now with 235K miles, no problems, original engine original transmission, and I've driven 12K miles between oil changes and transmission fluid changes at 100K, This form is full of BS on this subject. If you don't like it, shift manually and it will never activate
I am suspect of the hydraulic lifters that deactivate the engine valves when in AFM mode. I've read in these Forums a few instances of lifter failure, that can ruin the cam and contaminate the engine with metal filings. It happens to the other GM vehicles that use the 6.2 liter V8. It is a complexity and risk for little benefit in my view. So I have the Range device and sleep better at night. Well, except for worries about the standard bent and cracked cast aluminum wheels.
Some will say they haven't had any issues, and some will say they have had issues. If it is a peace of mind type thing you are seeking, just grab an AFM disabler and don't worry about it.
27,000 100% use, no issues. I have broken 30 mpg (50 mile average) on flat Michigan roads.
I also have a 21 V6 AWD Blazer with AFM. So good there, but only 7000 miles.
The Blazer has auto shut off, and I have learned to ignore it. It just does it thing no problem.
Used it regularly on my '17 without issues for 12000 miles. Have only used it occasionally on my '19 with 11000 miles as IMO its "benefit" was insignificant for my usage. Never had an issue... That said, am glad it only activates in ECON mode on the M7 and I never use that mode...
