Default AFM comment / question

There have been many posts about the V4 (AFM) mode, mostly negative. But as usual, they're the only ones that will generally post comments. My question is...how many have had absolutely NO problems associated with AFM on their C7? I haven't.

Not on my 2016 Stingray A8 I have 123,000 miles on. But I installed the Range AFM defeat module. But I started using it as a "just in case" at about 50,00 miles. Would forget to plug it in half the time, but never had any issues whatsoever with AFM.

Totally stupid idea.
AFM is:................(Garbage).
Hard on engines, drive train and TCC. Thats why GM to put in a steel torque tube. AFM was destroying the aluminum one.
Engine totally out of balance when in V4 mode.
I did not buy an expensive sports car to drive a 4 banger.
The list goes on...............
I can live without the 1 mpg.
It will never work as intended, never.
Tuned mine out.

No issues with mine, but I put the range in at about 5k miles and have 10k now. I also had the most recent fluid flush done 2 months ago as well.

No problems on my 14, but not long after I bought the car (used), I installed a Range AFM disabled on the car.

My '14 was an M7 and I did leave it in Eco Mode most of the time and never had any issues with AFM. Sold it with 52K miles on it

My '19 GS M7 had an AFM lifter fail at only 2,400 miles. Since the fix, I've never put it into Eco Mode again . At 11,500 miles, no issues

None, with a caveat.

116,000 miles on my '14 A6, when a hanger broke on my exhaust, screwing up the wiring harness and breaking one of the AFM actuators. So not an actual problem with the AFM.

However, I drove exclusively in M with the exception of ~500 miles to test it out in 2014. Never went back to D.

Only have 15K miles on my M7 15 Z and I use Eco Mode a fair amount of the time when driving on the streets/highway. I have had no AFM issues. AFM seems to be good for about 1 mpg at 70 mph or about the same as removing the center wicker from the spoiler. I see/mostly hear AFM actuate in 4th, 5th and 6th gears around town. As long as I am judicious in throttle movement the car will stay in 4 cylinder mode quite a bit in 4th gear.

2017 Z51 A8
30,000 miles
With the original trans fluid, the rpm would vary +/- 50-75 in V4 mode but it didn't seem to cause any actual problem.
Went to the new fluid at about 25k miles and the variation is completely gone.

2016 Z51 A8 Worked seamlessly for 4K miles then put in Range device and still no problems at 9K miles.

So the only time the AFM function is activated is when Eco mode is selected?

Correct if you have manual. If you have an auto it can drop to 4 cyl in any drive mode.

Thanks. I do have an auto. I guess I'll be buying a Range device.

Don't give a hang about AFM. Installed the Range Technologies AFM Disabler on my 2019 Stingray (A8) soon after purchase and have not seen V4 since.

I have a 2015 Z51 I just ordered the Range Technology AMF disabler. I will let everyone know what happens. I was reading all the posts about issues with transmission and I’m doing this as a preventative maintenance measure.

Beating a dead horse!
Defining a Problem is also an opinion unless the AFM just broke?
For me the driving experience is important in a high performance car. If I'm driving a truck or SUV maybe not as important. Forgetting about linking some of the A8 problems with AFM and only the driving experience. The engine shifting from 8 to 4 and back is not seemless. It is noticable. I do not like that.
Someone mentioned 8 speed transmission. I'd prefer to have 6 or 5 or 4 ?? not sure which it just seems like the A8 is constantly shifting up down .....
Too much complexity- I'm not smart so simple works better for me.
Just my opinion
