could be, mine would smoke after starting up but I just sold mine to the dealer so no more worries...Waiting for my 2021 convertable............................* *********************
Congrats!
I also checked my oil level and it is overfilled to the top of the hash marks.
16 Stingray - the smoke was occasional but growing in frequency. I describe it as blue/grey smoke. Leaves a significant carbon like deposit on the tailpipes and on the back of the car. Did happen after a service for first time. At dealer for the third time and the dealer will keep until fixed. They cannot replicate, but the 'soot' is clearly telling them something. I will be asking for a GM rep, but going to have them be sure it isn't overfilled. Will update when I get answers.
Car has 45K miles and nothing like this first 44K. Aggressively driven and tracked a couple of times.
Went to the invoices and saw 10 quarts for recent oil change vs. 8 quarts for a previous change. They acknowledge possibility. Changed oil and filled to appropriate levels. They are performing last checks for other fouling and when all clear returning the car today. I expect this is an answer unless you see another update from me. All symptoms, in hindsight, point to overfill. Possibly had the book turned to a sump pump model.
The tiresome thing is that I had to find this for them....
10 quarts don't overfill a dry sump car unless the previous oil wasn't drained properly. A little history of the dry sump:
It was introduced with the C6Z in 2005 and had a capacity of 8 quarts. In 2009 the ZR1 was introduced and due to oil starvation issues with previous years the capacity was increased to 10.3 quarts by adding a cone shaped reservoir to the original reservoir. This dry sump was carried over into the C7 model with the same capacity. The 2014 capacity is listed at 10.3 quarts, however, GM changed the capacity to 9.8 quarts by changing what was written in the OM and other documentation. They didn't change the hardware. When the car is used on track they want you to add a half quart of oil to bring total capacity to 10.3 quarts to reduce the chance of bearing starvation in corners.
I regularly track my car and keep it at the 10.3 quart level. I have no issues with oil consumption.
Here is a picture of Page 12-2 from an early 2014 OM showing the 10.3 capacity of the dry sump system on a Z51.
This picture shows the oil level when 10.3 quarts of oil are in the engine. This was taken after the engine OIL Temperature was brought to above 175 degrees before turning off the engine, then waiting 5 minutes to make the measurement. The lower solid red arrow indicates the top dot on the dip stick and where you would expect the oil level to be with 9.8 quarts of oil in the engine. The upper white filled red arrow indicates the level on the dip stick that is reached when there are 10.3 quarts of oil in the system.
When I check the oil I use the AT-1 Characters stamped into the dipstick as a reference to determine how much oil is in the engine.

Hello Bill - I must not have been clear - my C7 is a plain old stingray. Wet sump. I meant to imply that when they serviced my car and it came to filling with oil they were on the Z51 (dry sump) page in their service book. You are right about dry sump oil and somehow they futzed it on my service... should have caused some concern when they could not find the extra drain plug. It was an inexperienced or knucklehead mistake.
