Default Engine smoke

I have a 2017 stingray with standard 6.2 l engine..I have noticed for a while now that sometimes when i start or just going down the road it will emit a huge...like 8 ft. diameter ball of blue/black smoke?? Then nothing for weeks..
I asked my dealer about it but got no good answers..It runs fine, no engine codes are anything. Not losing oil to my knowledge.and still good gas millage..My buddy says I need to wring her out now and then..The exhausts are black and always have been. I clean them to let the chrome shine....
Do i need to add some type of fuel additive to clean her out??
I am a little concerned but not really...Just curious..It has 11,000 miles on her and just used around town and rarely interstate..So max 55mph...
There is a lot knowledge out there and i figure you guys would be able to give me some good advice.
thanks

Make sure you're using a TopTier premium fuel, and yes, get on 'er now and again to really clear those pipes! The black soot covered exhaust tips are normal for a direct injection engine.

Is the smoke coming from the exhaust, or somewhere else? I'd think it would be a good thing to wind it up a bit now and then, but not totally necessary. Regardless of how you drive, that much smoke, from wherever, can't be good.

This happened to me on my 2019 model after my first oil change. Evidently, dealer managed to overfill by at least a quart. Good news was they did another oil change and no damage caused.

Yeah but what do the tops of the valves look like? I'll bet the dealer didn't look at them.

Fro me, blue smoke would signal oil burning while black would be blowing carbon deposits from the exhaust system. I haven't noticed any visible emissions from mine.

I agree a few short WOT if you are afraid to really get into the car. It was made for this to a point not going to hurt it. Robert

I've not experienced the same symptoms you're describing, but I'd be suspicious that maybe your catalytic converter catalyst might be "dead" and not getting hot enough to burn off deposits. On occasion, the depots build up and begin plugging off. Eventually, the backpressure blows the deposits from the exhaust.

Just a guess, but what I can tell you is that what you're experiencing isn't the norm.

Good luck with finding the problem

Although it's 93, Kroger is not a TopTier fuel. Oddly enough, I had some issues with their fuel in another car; no way I'd put it through a performance engine. Save your fuel points for your daily, wife's car, or use them at Shell.

You really want something like Exxon, Mobil, Chevron, Texaco, BP, Valero, Marathon, Sinclair, Shell, etc.

Over-filled, but doesn't sound critically so. Can you post a picture of the dipstick laying on a white paper towel?

Just to confirm: your car is on a flat level surface?

I tried to take a photo but no go..I can barely see it and its level...I might try it warm engine...this is a cold engine.
I did a lot of google but no one mentions OCCASIONAL smoke.....like once every 2 weeks or so....Others say that even a quart overfill is not too bad...I would be a lot more worried if it emitted all the time...Its like a cough once in a while...
Just do not know...I will talk to dealer again...I did just have a #1 spark plug replaced...it went dead after only 11,000 miles.. gave me an engine warning and it shook like hell.Guy says that rare but things happen...
thanks

After warming the engine check it about 5-10 mins after you shut it off so all the oil can drain back down into the pan for an accurate read.

I'll assume you have a wet sump base Stingray and not a Z51. You only check the wet sump cold. A dry sump Z51 / GS / Z06 / ZR-1 is checked hot between 5 and 10 minutes after engine shut down. If you have a dry sump you are grossly overfilled.

Never saw any smoke in 30K miles on my 2014 Z51 or 2019 GS. However, I do get on it occasionally after the engine is warmed up.

My car is also giving smoke in start up, could it be due to only short trips that I have been doing?

This happened to me once in 5 years ownership. Stomped on the gas and a huge plum of black smoke came out. Never happened again.
