I know this may sound stupid, but I tie my wrenches, etc. to my wrist with a little line strap. If I drop them down into the depths of the engine bay, which I do on occasion, I can pull them up.
I'm not a mechanic, but I am clumsy.

Yup weve all done that, glad you found it.

The worst is dropping a socket. Little buggers can find all sorts of nooks and crannies to hide in.

Glad you found it, I knew you would ! When I worked on my Gold wing and changed the air filter ( 4-5 hr. job ) if you dropped something ( a lot of the Gold wing parts are plastic ) went into a long black hole never to be seen again, even metal parts disappear .
