I've also heard it said that full breakin requires several heat cycles- up to normal oil & coolant temps for a while, then a cooldown overnight.
And of course the Owner Manual tells us avoid high performance (track days, autocross, etc) until 1,500 miles.
Either way, it looks like OP will be ok for the drive home.
Did a 5hr.drive home from Kerbeck.Varied RPM'S in between getting rear ended on 95 North threw Jersey and NewYork.
Hopefully for you and the Unit, you don't get Baptized on the way home.Feeling out the new car with these tires in rain wasn't a big deal.Speeds down on break in anyway
Look that vehicle over real good before paperwork. So many horror stories of when you get home.
Start anther thread with some New Unit Pictures when Home
I drove 390 miles on 4/3 from Long Beach, Ca. to San Leandro up in the Bay Area to trade in our '03 C5 50th Anniversary Ed. for the last manual GS convertible in the state.
We were there about 90 mins. to do all the paper work and drove right back home.
For break in, every 50 miles I would just down shift several gears and just hold it there for a bit and not go over 3.5K rpm's. Also got off the hwy several times.
I'm now at 500 miles and I'm probably going change the oil myself.
The first Corvette I bought I was more than 1,500 miles from home and by the time I GOT home I had more than 5,500 miles on the Clock... I traded it for a different color 67,000 later.... as the dealer I traded to, as he wholesaled it (he did not deal in used cars) - "I have a real cream puff here for you."
Another time a friend bought a car in my area, I picked it up and drove it to him - when he received it it had 2,500+ miles on it.
And, another time still I traded for a Vette and drove it 1,700 miles before getting home....
As I often say here on the forum - these cars aren't fragile.
