I get stuff like this all the time. Someone buys the base model and they want to see how much it would cost to install the navigation radio option or something like that. The part itself is thousands of dollars. Then you’d have to replace the wiring harness in the dashboard among other places. Plus some other components would have to be replaced. By the time it was all said and done, the option that would’ve just cost $2k up front would cost (if even possible) over $10k to add it later. And that’s on a same year model.
Here we’re not just talking a different year, but we’re talking a completely different vehicle architecture. With a completely different transmission. A transmission that I think physically is much bigger than either of the C7 transmissions. Plus there’s the nightmare of how do you get wiring and control modules from the new generation to somehow work and blend in with the wiring and control module network of the old.
The short answer is no. Longer answer? Hellllll no. But I suppose with enough money to R&D it and willingness to chop up a C7 and totally Frankenstein the thing, I suppose.
Anything is possible, just not affordable. A8 to A10 would at least be doable but still not cheap. You can have that triple flush done every few months for the money that would be spent.
The question is why would you want to do it? If it's because of reliability of the A8, you could buy many A8 transmissions and it would still be way less than what this kind of retrofit would cost (if it's even possible, don't forget the mid engine layout makes it a completely different scenario here) And if it's because you like the idea of having a quicker shifting DCT, I don't really think it's all that much quicker than the already lightning fast A8. I bet most people couldn't even tell the difference, the A8 already shifts very similar to a DCT at full throttle.
Truth be told though, if you want a reliable A8, just have the right fluid in there and getting it tuned by someone in the know and it should last a very long time.
