I am looking at a 2016 Corvette and noticed that under the hood on the passenger side, the silver Emissions Control label has about 75 percent of it scraped off, you can still see where it said 2016 in the image on the tape that is left on the car. The car has a clean Carfax report on it and I know it's just a silver label but would there be a reason for this? Don't think there is a Vin # on the label or any other identification numbers on it. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Thanks
The label itself is torn away or at least the top layer is, can still see the image a little where it is scraped off but looks like it was maybe pulled of on purpose for some reason. Check my 2016 Stingray and as far as I can tell, has no identifying info on it, looks just like a generic sticker that they would put on all vehicles.
I can't think of anything malicious, but I can think of a few innocent reasons it'd be damaged. Maybe give the rest of the car a little extra attention. I wouldn't worry about it too much if the rest of the car checks out.
That's what I kinda thought, when I shined a flashlight on the torn off part, you could see the number 2016 had been on the sticker, if it had shown 2014 or 2015 I would figure the hood had been replaced and it had been in an accident or damaged and did not show up on the Carfax. I guess you could buy a replacement sticker for it, probably not hiding anything about the vehicle or trying to conceal an accident or something, it just doesn't look good with part of the label torn off.
You can order a replacement label that they'll make with your VIN number on it - part number is 19354745 - order it from your GM parts source of choice (example here: https://www.gmpartscenter.net/oem-pa...label-19354745)
Someone may have decided to remove it and when it didn't play nicely being pealed, he or she simply stopped. Perhaps, they thought they'd come back to it and didn't. I cannot see it does anything apart from meeting some subsection of some Federal regulation.
For those in California, the smog check tech may look for the sticker to ensure it has CA emissions (all C7 Corvettes are 50 state legal, some other makes have separate 49 state and CA models).

SFwoc - thanks for the info and the part number. My label is just fine, but you never know if it will eventually need replacement. I like to keep part numbers on file just in case.
I agree, probably just an insignificant label with federal specifications on it but like to keep a car as original as possible. Probably like the tags that they put on pillows and mattresses that say Do Not Remove per federal guidelines. Looks like it contains no vin # or anything pertaining to the specific vehicle on it.
