Default Quick oil question..

Checked oil and olm says 83% but level on stick is on top of lower crosshatch, in my mind that seems a bit low but manual confused me a bit so just wanted to make sure before doing anything.

should a add a bit? How much do you think? Where exactly should the level be? This is a non z51 stingray. Thanks

Any reading in the hatch area is fine. The hatch area is 1 quart from end to end. Below the hatch, low, add to get oil to the middle of the hatch and drive happy.

The OLM gives you a measure of oil life before change due, not oil level.

Also make sure you're measuring the oil level correctly...warm up the engine (oil at least 175 degrees), turn off and measure between 5 to 10 minutes later.

The OP said that they have a "non Z51 Stingray"... so it's a wet sump and does not require the dry sump oil level checking instructions that you mentioned above.

For clarification, checking oil with a warm engine would be for Z06, Grand Sport and Stingray's with Z51. Base Stingray non-Z51 oil is checked after the engine has been off for at least 2 hours, i.e., cold engine. Peace.

I have noticed on my non Z51 that if you clean off the dip stick and then take an oil reading that one side of the dip stick will read higher than the other side.
I imagine that the dip stick is not in a vertical position compared to the oil level.

From the Owners Manual page 223: "To get an accurate reading, park the vehicle on level ground. Check the engine oil level after the engine has been off for at least two hours. Checking the engine oil level on steep grades or too soon after engine shutoff can result in incorrect readings. Accuracy improves when checking a cold engine prior to starting. Remove the dipstick and check the level."

Pics below from my 2019 non-Z51 LT1. I was advised by a nationally known Corvette tech the reading below is normal and to always use the high side as the reference point for oil level.

If you rotate the oil dip stick before removing it both sides will read the same, the higher level.

This is quite correct on the 2 hours, however, you can get by with 15 minutes if you happen to be traveling and are filling up at a gas station. Let the car sit for 15 and then check and it'll be close 'nuff for gubmint work.

My 2014 manual says 5 - 10 minutes for a non-Z51. I guess the 2019 brought oil level checking to a new level of accuracy?

Scruff mine looks about the same as your first pic on both pics, ill just add a tiny bit more and have the rest of quart if needed. I checked again this morn and level was the same so no leak, just hope its not burning or using so ill keep on it.

i know olm has nothing to do with this just thought level on stick would be higher at 83 percent.

Just got car in fl so maybe they didnt fill it right or maybe very long drive home used a bit.

Could be that the car was not filled properly the last time the oil was changed. At 83% on the OLM, you should not be down that far on the dipstick.

Put the cap back on the oil and keep it for when you actually need it. These engines do not like to be overfilled in oil.
