Am curious, as a group, your take on this question (or situation).
I am washing my 2016 Z51 3LT the other day. Once finished I leave the bay to dry the car in the shade. A gentleman walks over to engage in conversation about my car. After a few seconds he hits me with, "So, how fast have you had it?"
I get it, it's a legit inquiring question most (I'm guessing) would like to know. But, I really don't feel comfortable sharing such info. I simply told him (especially strangers. "Not to be rude, but 'Vette owners normally don't share such info. It's against protocol."
A little stunned, he replied; "My son has one and that's all he talks about. I'll be sure to tell him he should be keeping that stuff more to himself." I told him,"Yep. Protocol man."
"How fast will it go" is just a common question people have been asking people with performance cars since day one. Much like asking someone with a fishing pole in the water if they are "catching anything".
No use to make it anymore than it is.
I tell them that if it was 20 years ago I would have been able to tell them if it would do everything on the speedo. Now I just tell them what it will do in first gear. lol
I'll have to admit that was quite a rude response. Why so uptight about it? I don't like talking to people but it never fails that anytime I wash the car or stop and get gas someone comments on the car or has a story about their uncles brothers cousins moms husband sister had one yada yada yada. But I just smile and keep my answers simple, act humble and interested in their story and then wish them to have a nice day. I'm sure all they remember is "man I saw this badass car today and the owner was cool."
I don't say this in a preachy manor, but c'mon you have to sometimes work those people skills. If someone asks how fast I've had it I say something stupid like I've only been to the track once or its too shiny to go triple digits because its a cop magnet. They won't know the difference.
