Just a quick question? Has anyone ever put on an aftermarket shift **** like the old pool ball ones? I bought mine from southern car parts. Anyway, I put it on and can't help but notice when I'm driving the car the **** has a rattling noise. Has anyone else had this problem before? If so, what can he done to stop that noise. I've tried the O- rings and even tape. Thanks
The hardest part was taking the original **** off. Where the silver piece is on the leather going to the shifter was a pain to twist off. Once you get that twisted off it's easy. Just take your time taking it off. Also the screw has locktite on it so just be careful with that.
I had to change out the o-ring to a thicker one to keep it from rattling (may have added two, I cant remember). Just go to Harbor Freight and get one of those cheap o-ring kits and find one that works for you.
Pretty easy to remove the ****. Like mentioned above, hardest part was twisting the retaining ring. FYI, the edges on that are sharp and WILL cut you.... I found out the hard way. Last weekend I put an MGW shifter in so I went through the process of removal. I was able to remove the boot around the retainer ring (twisted and turned but the ring stayed in place and the boot removed from the ring). I then tried to twist the ring and sliced my thumb. Channel locks was able to get it done.
