Default Remote start question

After remote starting the car this evening, I jumped in and could not put the car into gear (drive). I got out of the car and started to fiddle with the remote again but I could not shut the car off with the remote. So now I'm thinking... this is great... is this thing going to shut off after 10 mins or what ? After fiddling with the remote several more times I got back into the car and tried again and was finally able to put the car into gear and go. What did I do wrong here ?

***Btw, the Chevrolet dealer I bought the car from didn't review anything about the car with me so I am learning everything on my own.

To get the car in gear after remote starting, you have to get in the car and put your foot on the brake and press the start button.

I imagine you didn’t push the engine start button. Yes the engine is already running when you do a remote start, but everything else is still powered off until you put your foot on the brake and push the button.

Thank you both. Yes, I pressed the start button because I was trying to shut the car off ! Lol.. But it kept running which would also explain the reason I couldn't shut the car off with the keyfob. Then I got back in and it mysteriously went into gear.

If you got in, pressed on the brake then pressed the start button, it should have allowed you to place the car in gear; I would have it checked out by a trusted mechanic.

Regardless my friend, once you remote start the car, you should be able to cancel it /turn it off by hitting the same button on your remote. Also in case you did not know the car has to be locked in order for it to execute a remote start, so I always hit the “lock “ button prior to the RS button...

Yes, I knew that part. Read it in the manual. Tomorrow I will see if the car shuts off with the remote though. It was not shutting off yesterday when I held the remote start button down on the keyfob. I tried a few different ways too because I couldn't believe the car would not shut off. Held it down for a few seconds, intermittantly pressed it, etc. Thanks for the help.

If you remote start the car, virtually all commands from the fob inside the car will be ignored.

It's hard to tell from your narrative if this was the case. Regardless, if you remote start and don't activate the car by pressing the start button while your foot is on the brake, it should shut off at the ten minute mark.

It could be that the fob battery is getting weak. Replace the battery.

You can also cancel a remote start by turning on the hazard warning lights.

Or opening the hood.

Seemed to be ok yesterday. Maybe it was just a little glitch. I will use it more often to be sure there aren't any issues. Thanks everyone.
