i'm interested in replacing my doors on my 2018 stingray z51 with a lambo door and i want your thoughts on this. Is it a good or bad idea and why. What's the best way of doing it
Seen a lot of posts from people who know people who have them that claim there has been bending of the support brackets under weight of the door and alignment issues. I have also seen equally as many posts from people who have them that absolutely love them, as well as people who have them who decided to take them off after realizing it wasn't as practical as they had hoped.
My opinion on "lambo doors" is this: If you LOVE the look of them and that is what you want for your car then, by all means, pull the trigger and enjoy it! You are going to get a lot of grief from the people who don't like them and who think they are only meant for certain types of cars. Unless that is your opinion, I would ignore those comments. If you do decide to install them, make sure you go with the high quality setup and preferably one of the kits that has the shock to assist with the actual weight of the doors. Also suggest having a professional install them. It's a straight forward mod and if you decide later you don't like them anymore, you can easily take them off.
If you like them, it's your car and I support anyone's decision to mod THEIR car the way THEY want to.
I agree with Daily. I'd find a shop that has done several and look at the vehicles and talk with the owners. I know a guy that got it done here in NC and he loves his. I've seen him at a couple of c&c's and his work flawlessly. There should be someone in Ga that does a good job. I know there are some in Fl. There are a couple of guys on the forum that have done them if I remember correctly. Edgyvettes or something like that had a set for sell. Not sure if he still does. He was near me in NC but is in Fl now. https://www.facebook.com/582098285305669/posts/c7-corvette-verticle-doors-inc-lambo-door-kit-this-is-an-edgyvette-facebook-pric/972341099614717/
I know a shop that does them, a lot . I was having some work done and the tech there said they get all vert doors “Problem child” installs. While they do present a unique look, they are a “physics” nightmare. Note they do require some cutting to allow the hinge to function, also they have to extend the door wiring harness on both doors and while it looks somewhat polished ...it does not look factory. Additionally he mentioned how you have to be very experienced to get the alignment right on the first try otherwise the paint will rub on each open/close. Also they have to be retourqued over time. Think he said Vertical doors installed os about a 5k nut..

Some like them, some don't.....I do like them! The problem is that they are not a true Lambo mechanism. Scissor doors adapted for Corvette are ones that you have to push out first and then push them up. You actually can push this up first, but the mechanism doesn't really support it. People that have them like them because you have the option to open the door traditionally or scissor door style.
Not cheap, can make exiting the car after a (severe) accident significantly more difficult, (as previously pointed out) not a true scissor door, must go out before up in most cases. They are cool to some people but does that balance out the negatives?
I saw a Z06 Carbon 65 at a car show last weekend that had the "Lambo doors". I talked to the owner about them. He said his can open either way - normal or up. I watched him get in and out once and it looked a little cumbersome. They didn't look solid - meaning just not smooth and a little flimsy. The doors did look good and did get some attention however. He said he liked them but that he had to be careful with them - which I took to mean he has to be gentle with them. They are a cool novelty and worth it for some - wouldn't be for me but that's me.
I would say, like others have, if you like them do them! Not my cup of tea, but neither are chrome wheels and I see a lot of those on the forums.
As well like others have said, go with a quality kit and a reputable install. Nothing worse than being excited for your newest mod and it being executed poorly causing more headaches than joy
ignore all the above posts because theyre obvious.
dont do it, its tasteless in a way, but the real reason not to do it is, thats money you could spend on other mods. i mean come on.. if youre gonna drop that kind of money, get a wide body kit or hell just put a supercharger on your car or whatever else. anything else, basically =D

Edgyvettes was selling Lambo doors a while back. I spoke to him and he recommended a guy near me in NC for installing. That guy charges $1500 to install and takes 3 days.
I just saw this wild looking Vette Z06 last week while in Manassas Virginia. It was parked in front of a car stereo store. I would not do this to my Corvette, but it did catch my eye enough to make me stop and snap a photo!

I know nothing about the installation process or any issues that come afterwards, but if you like the look of that style, you probably always will. All I'd recommend is finding a car with it and trying it out.
I don't believe it cheapens the car any more than any other modification. What it is guaranteed to do is make it custom...make it uniquely yours.
Have you ever driven or ridden any amount of time in a 12-cylider Lambo? Their doors are a pain in the head, so I wouldn't expect aftermarket Vette knock-offs to be any better.
If the "gawk factor" is your thing, then go for 'em.

Not a look that I really care for on a Corvette, but if Lambo-type doors are what you want on your car, go for it. As mentioned, get the best kit you can to hopefully prevent problems with the operation.
