Android Auto Wireless?
Honestly, I probably wouldn't use this or wouldn't use this often as I already have a ProClip and a wire running, and most of the time I'd like my phone to be charging while driving, but if I can use it I might on occasion.

Cheers
Also, I think the early C7s used the bluetooth connection for streaming I Heart Radio and Pandora and getting weather. I think they started forcing you to use wifi in 2016.

BTW why would you need to set up a hotspot to use I Heart Radio and weather? I mean can't you just use your cell phone's data plan?
BTW Bluetooth does not "pull all my music and phone files into the car system". There's no place in the car system to store such things, that is unless you mean a USB stick in which case Bluetooth is not involved.

You can use your phone to stream through bluetooth audio, but you can't control it through the car's touchscreen, unless you're connected via wifi or Android Auto. The weather icon was just another example of something that doesn't work unless you're connected to wifi. The My Chevrolet app is another example.
If you go to Settings from the Home Screen, you can turn wifi on or off. From there, you can set up which wifi networks you want to connect to, like a hotspot.

What's so hard to understand. The C7 does NOT HAVE wireless Apple car play or Android Auto capability no matter what you do or have. You either plug into the usb port to get it or not.
The page is wrong. The HMI 2.5 module in the C7 does not support 5GHz wifi. It only has 2.4 GHz.
Look under 'operating frequencies'.

Interesting. So then it's the 5GHz that is required to run AA wirelessly. That makes sense.
(And, of course, it'd be about $2k to upgrade the hardware I bet...
)
As Jeff V stated, this only works on a few Android based aftermarket head units.
There is a thread over on XDA where a techie built a homemade dongle and some software for Android phone (requires root). https://forum.xda-developers.com/gen...-auto-t3813163
There is a Car Play dongle available but I hear mixed results on its use.

It's my understanding that in order to use the weather icon, via wifi or not, you need to pay for some sort of OnStar connection. I don't pay for OnStar. Haven't ever. But during the trial period, the weather icon did indeed work. Again, I've never used my car's wifi. The My Chevrolet app is a joke. Since I always use AA when driving I don't need to stream music via Bluetooth, which has subpar frequency response and if I need to know about the weather I just say "Hey Google, what's the weather", or for a quick assessment, just look out the window!
I assume since I've seen "andrew's corvette" wifi SID that my setting is already on. I'll check it though. But then again, I do not wish to pay for a data plan when I already have unlimited and I do not wish to pay for a hotspot from Sprint. Especially just to occasionally use AA in wireless mode. It just isn't worth the extra $$$.
You can connect to your home network in your garage, just as a test, to show which apps use wifi. I'm not saying it's anything special. Weather and Pandora are just examples.
I don't intend to argue over phone plans, but here's my Sprint plan. I was wrong on the limit. I can use the hotspot up to 50GB. I've had the plan for years, and I have no idea if it's still available.

Alas, I'm in an apartment and the carport that I park in is too far to connect to my home wifi. If programmed correctly, an app has no idea and does not care what the transport mechanism is, be it wired, wireless, or just cellular data. The only difference in the TCP/IP stack is the speed.
As I said before, I've used the Weather app (unless you are talking about some different sort of weather app - I'm talking about the one in MyLink that there by default) and Pandora with my phone and wifi disabled. As I said, the dealer initially set up the wifi but I never used it and have since forgotten the password. And I never signed up for any data plan. Pandora worked fine from my phone to the MyLink app with just cellular data. But I ditched Pandora long ago.
