Default C7 Key Fob

Alright gents, so I pulled a bonehead move- lost a key fob for my 2017.

After some research: There's 8 different type of key fobs I can order?

pre 2015 at 333 mhz and 2016+ at 434mhz?

Then it breaks down to:

Manual Coupe
Manual Convertible
Auto Coupe
Auto Convertible

This part I understand: Here are a few questions I hope some folks could answer:

-The key fob seems to be around the $100-120 range everywhere, why is the dealer the cheapest here?
-Can I buy another corvette owners key fob and reprogram it myself?
-Dealer wants $175 to reprogram the key- is this normal? (~$300 for fob/programming at dealer)

Any advice in this situation would be great

1) you need to get the proper fob for your model year and transmission / roof type
2) you can match a used fob to your car as long as it meets (1)
3) the metal key in the fob is purchased separately. An existing key can be duplicated if the shop / locksmith has the correct side cut machine, or can be provided by a dealer based on VIN
4) there is NO programming in the fob
5) your Vette can be matched to up to 8 fobs. Only fob 1 and fob 2 will trigger memory functions in 2&3 LT/LZ trim levels
6) instructions on how to add a fob are in your owner's manual and in a thread up in sticky notes
7) if you have a 2or 3 LT/LZ you need to use the longer procedure to add the fob. Otherwise the new fob will be #3 and not have memory functions
8) a dealer should not really need more than 30 minutes to add a fob (less than that, but allow some time for getting set up) so no more than $$$ 1 labor hour at the absolute worst

Thanks bud,

So I found it on Amazon for about $70, the cheapest shipped. As far as the metal key- you were right- thats another ~$60 at the dealer. PN 25962393 incase anyone was wondering- I didnt see that in any of the other threads.

Amazon transmitter with a $30 key I am looking at around $100 instead of $160+, but will they program it? Same PN and all- I'd say most likely- worst case I buy their key fob program it then program the 3rd myself.

I also did find this, but its refurb: https://www.uhs-hardware.com/product...rvette~yr_2017 for $90 and need $10 for free shipping (lol)
-With this, the key is https://www.uhs-hardware.com/products/k-gm-em39 , $5, But shows compatibility for 2014-2016.. this should work for all the key fobs?

-Are there shops that can do this? Seems you need some sophisticated equipment to program these?

Ace Hardware did it for me, that is, cut the key. For $10, a few months ago, they ordered the key and cut it while I waited. The fob I bought off ebay came with a blank, uncut key. They, Ace, required that they order the key that would be cut. Worked out fine.

Dude,

There is NO programming in the key fob. The "programming" is in principle no different than pairing your bluetooth phone to the car. All of the "programming" done on the car using the metal key in the rear lock cylinder just tells the car that the fob in the steering wheel slot is authorized and that commands from the fob should be acted upon. The fob has a unique id code that the car stores, just like every cell phone has a unique id code. Part number, device ID, and other info is inside the fob by the battery.

In post #2 I gave you 2 sources for programming instructions to do it yourself. RTFM.

I have an extra fob, i lost one of mine, then found it. So i have a uncut key and perfect condition fob i will sell for 75... will be posting in for sale section tomorrow

This is for my m7 2019 z06. My understanding is that the number of buttons and fcc id is all that matters
