Driving yesterday at about 6:30pm on the highway, doing about 65-70, saw a bird fly down in front of the nose of my Z06. I did not see the bird fly away, did not hear or feel anything hit either...Got to where I was going and saw the bird sticking out of my grill on the driver side. Does anyone know how to get into the area between the Grill and radiator ? I'd like to try and clean out what is left, including a few leaves and pine needles stuck at the bottom. I was able to get the bird parts out using a long handled tong.
I think you have to take the bumper off in order to get into that area, but could be wrong. Could try blowing it with a leaf blower and see if you can get some of the rest out of there.
Maybe you can use a thin extended nozzle with a shop vac to create suction and pull it out. Would hate to pull the whole bumper off for that. Good luck.
Mix: 1 1/2 T tobasco, 2 t salt, 2 t black pepper, 2 c flour, 1 t cayenne pepper
Roll in buttermilk, coat in flour mix. Fry in 350* vegetable oil for 10 minutes or until internal temp is 165*. Not sure what side dishes go best with Bumper Bird. Maybe someone else has a recommendation.
Does anyone know how to get into the area between the Grill and radiator ?
I had a bird actually get through the Z06 grille I had installed on my Z51. Fortunately I had a screen installed between the grille and radiator to protect the radiator from stones, and unknowingly at the time, from a bird. There are two panels underneath the car behind the bumper (at least that's how my Z51 is configured). My bird was unseen in between these panels for a month or two before I realized he was there. That explains why I didn't see the body fly off after impact. Just remove the screws from underneath the car behind the bumper to remove the lower panel and access the area between the panels if anything needs to be cleaned out from there, like a rotting dead bird. Above the top panel in front of the radiator will require bumper removal I believe. Installation of the protective screen also required removal of the bumper. An expanded metal gutter guard available at hardware stores was used, trimmed to size, and attached with stainless bolts and rivets. To clean that area, I use a shop vac with the hose reduced to a household vacuum cleaner hose which is reduced down to mini attachments meant for vacuuming electronic equipment. Some stones, bugs, and leaves will be too large to get past the mini attachment so just remove those items from the attachment with for fingers. Hope this info is helpful.
