I have an iPhone XR with the latest CarPlay update. When navigating using (Apple) maps the volume is too low to hear. The volume on my iPhone volume is turned all the way up but still can’t hear it. And if I have the radio on the music doesn’t auto mute when a navigation point (audio directions) arrives.
Setup
USB cable is plugged into the car and the iPhone
Carplay selected in the infotainment screen and map is displayed.
iPhone Bluetooth is turned off since I am directly connected to the car via USB cable.
Does anyone else have this (low volume) problem? Any suggestions on how to increase the nav volume?
BTW, turning up the volume on the infotainment/radio just increases the radio volume not the navigation.
Not sure if this will help but I have had a similar issue.
While connected to the cable swipe down from the top right and see if the volume slider is all the way up. If not, unplug it swipe it all the way up then plug it back in. For some reason it doesn’t always turn control all the way over to the car.
Talk and music volume on the car is separate. You can adjust talk volume when it’s giving directions - and it won’t affect music volume and vice versa.
So if you want Louder directions, adjust it while it’s talking

On my 2016 you can’t adjust the nav while talking its a preset volume. The volume **** only adjusts the radio volume.
Just wished it worked like my other cars which automatically mutes the music when the nav speaks.
I read on google news about volume problem with Apple Car Play after last update . They said it was related to a Waze update where Waze is always running in the background regardless if Waze is open or not. The suggestion till a patch came out was to delete Waze app if you don't use it often and that should solve problem. So if you have Waze you might try deleting Waze and see what happens. If it doesn't solve problem reinstall Waze and wait for next suggestion. Dave
Is Waze an APP on the phone or on the vehicle?
BTW At least for my wife the problem is not related to APPLE CarPlay.
She only uses that when on a trip.

Once the navigation starts talking you then turn the volume **** and it will remain at that level and adjust the music level when the navigation isn't speaking. When both music is speaking it gets confusing so wait before adjusting when both speaking.

Not sure why that is happening with you but I do it all the time in multiple cars by using the volume button for the infotainment screen and it will adjust to whoever is speaking (radio or waze) as long as carplay is connected and you are using waze on the infotainment screen.
