As mentioned before Simple green and aluminum do not mix. Over time it will oxidize/tarnish the surface unless the aluminum has been clear coated.. I used it in an ultrasonic cleaner once on motorcycle carbs, they came out heavily tarnished. Never again.

After every hand-wash, I pop the hood and use soap and water to dry and wipe down the engine. If driven in the rain, I wipe down immediately after engine cools off. How again does it extend the lifespan of the engine? I had a car that went to 480K and the only wash it gets is if I spilled fluids and I use brake cleaner for oils and water for coolant when we changed thermostats or the radiator.
