Hi:
A friend has a C7 vette and left the engine idling after he got out of the car with the fob, then the engine shut off after about 20 min.. Is the normal or just protection ? No damage was detected .
HELP
Ed
Seems a similar post asked same question.
IIRC there's a setting which'll shut car down if fob is beyond range for X# of minutes.
As usual check Owner's Manual last but check.
G/L, now fun starts guessing whatever feature's called.
If the vehicle is left in P (Park) while
running and the Remote Keyless
Entry (RKE) transmitter is outside
the vehicle, the vehicle will turn off
after one hour.
If the vehicle is left in P (Park) while
running and the RKE transmitter is
inside, the vehicle will run for two
hours. At the end of the second
hour, the vehicle will turn off.
My car shuts off in 12-15 minutes. I don't remember if I was ever in the car when it did it but definitely away from the car. As a matter of fact it happened just a couple of nights ago when I ran in the house with it running and came out and it was off. Definitely no longer than 15 minutes. BTW I don't know of any setting that lets you control any aspect of this.

Below is from the 2019 owners manual. Different times for different years. It would be nice if the time was user configurable.
If the vehicle is left parked and running with the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter outside the vehicle, it will continue to run for up to half an hour.
If the vehicle is left parked and running with the RKE transmitter inside the vehicle, it will continue to run for up to an hour.
They key words are "up to" in the above two statements. In the 2017 manual it says "after" and "at the end of"

Seeing this, does anyone know if the shut down feature was for all of the C7 model years or only for the latter ones? I did a quick search in my 2014 owners manual but did not see something like was mentioned in the 2017 manual. Could have just missed it too I guess.

Below is link to Extended Parking feature GM vehicles.
Article states GM started rolling it out in 2013 on select 2014 models (but did not say which ones) and became standard on more and more models in the following years.
