I was at a Chevy dealer in Dallas recently where a guy need work done on a wheel on his '18, he was traveling across country. No key for "lockie-lug-nuts"..... Yup, had to "bust" it off....
My '19 came with locking lug nuts, my '15 did not.... '15 was 3LT, '19 is a 1LT.... dealer ordered it. I probably won't keep the '19 long enough to worry about the lug nuts....
FYI some dealers add wheel locks for a high mark up profit. What may cost them $20 wholesale for a set of locks can be "Dealer Add On" for $100. Don't laugh, I've seen it many times at stealerships.
Every time this subject comes up, the "locks are easily defeated" chorus begins. I post about the Gorilla locks below and ask them how would you get these off. No one has ever come up with a way to get them off without the key. So here is your chance again to show us how inventive you can be and to tell us how you would get them off with the outside half of the lock that freely rotates. And if you can't, please shut up.
Has anyone actually had their wheels stolen or know someone who has? Personally I have not. I know it happens as I've seen pictures but it seems to be as a rare as a shark attack or a lighting strike. On flip side I know multiple people who have had key related problems (lost or damaged). I've had locks before and it was just an inconvenience. So no locks for me. Where are you people parking that wheel theft is concern? This isn't a random smash-n-grab or crime of opportunity, its a planned attack.

LMAO... The Gorilla lug nuts are one of the easiest locking systems to defeat. Here is the 2 minute video showing you how worthless they are.
^^^
Are those the current Gorilla Nuts with the spinning top?
Earlier versions were different, the video is from several years ago and I can't tell which ones he's dealing with.
P.S. I don't have Gorilla Nuts.
Who parks their Vette where anyone can touch, let alone have the time to steal the wheels off of it?
I'm no expert but wouldn't it be easier to just steal the entire car than just the wheels? Would take a lot longer to jack up the car to remove the wheels, I'd think.
Besides, if you're lucky, the thief will just get the bent rims and you'll get a new set of wheels/tires for just the typical $100 comprehensive deductible from your insurance company.

The only thing locking lug nuts do is put money in the pocket of the guy selling them.
There is a lot of false information on the internet and this is just one more case. An NO they are not the spinning head locks.

Threads of this sort always fascinate me - "They're gong to steal _________." I've been driving high-end cars since 1960 on five continents: restaurants, hotels, in driveways, in front of houses, to Lowe's, K-Mart, Walmart.... never had anything done to a car: Vette, Porsches, Audis, MBs, Ferrari..... you got insurance? Add AAA, if you don't have it, and move on.
For Pete's sake don't let the car own you..... it it does, sell it, trade, it, get something else...

GUYS!!! UGH!!!
Jim just underhands us a beautiful opportunity here and NO ONE takes a swing?! .....soooo caught up in the locking lug discussion. No worries, I'll attempt the walk-off homer.
Jim, it's okay that you don't have Gorilla nuts. We're born with what we're born with. Takes a big man to share with an open forum that you don't have nuts like that, nuts worthy of the "gorilla" tag. The important part is....we still accept you brother, with or without gorilla nuts. It's not the actual nuts that make the man, it's more of the quality of execution and motivation of the day to day grind that the nuts generate.
This is always a safe zone for owners of nuts in the entire animal kingdom. Gorilla to squirrel to Bengal Tiger to a kitten in a child's arms.
I never use locking lug-nuts... on anything. I've seen too many cars severely damaged trying to get them off. I'd rather they take the insured tires and wheels and not destroy the car in the process.

Right! they are going to be very careful with your car. Are you awake?
Yes it will because they will take yours and not mine because mine are hard to get and yours aren't.
Here's a suggestion for all you guys who don't want your car damaged if someone tries to steal your wheels. Every night, put your car up on jack stands and take the wheels off and set them beside your car and put a sign on them that says, "Free, just don't damage my car."

Actually, they will take yours as my car is stored in a locked garage with a security system. Your car is a much easier target.
But my point goes to your comment the bad guys are not going to be careful even if you make it easy to remove the wheels. My observation is they are not going to be careful of your car period, locking nuts or not.
If it makes you feel safe then put the damn locks on, I do not know anyone that has had their wheels stolen. I am sure some have as evidenced by the picture posted, but that individual could have had wheel locks. You are fooling yourself if you think a common thief is gonna look at your wheels and say oh no Gorilla Locks and move on without attempting to get them off or damaging your car in some other way.
