Default Help !!

Just bought a 2014 C7 with 53K miles on it 4 months ago and blew the motor. Chevy called today and said something broke off and metal all in the engine, rebuild not cost effective for this type of damage. They are pricing out a new motor now, any suggestions on questions to ask as I am not entirely sure the information I am receiving is 100% legit. I do not know enough about engines to even argue with this point.

You will get more attention in the General forum, you posted in the ZR1 section which gets significantly less traffic.

If there is that much damage to your engine, I would go for the new engine. Ask what the cost would be for the total rebuild vs. the new engine. Either way this is going to be expensive. Good luck!

Not only a new engine, but also make sure they change out everything the engine oil ran through......coolers, lines, tank etc. Everywhere oil traveled, it took some of the metal bits and pieces with it and you do not want that junk going through your new motor. Just flushing the lines don't get it! Replace all oil connected parts.......ask me how I know!

This is SOP for anyone who races and smokes a motor. Good luck!

I agree with others that a new engine is the way to go. I've heard mention that a new engine replacement by GM runs in the neighborhood of $16,000 +/- a grand all in.

Depends on if you want to keep the car now or not. Are you still under the powertrain warranty (5/100k)? Having an engine replacement will definitely hurt resale when you want to get rid of it so dumping $20k into the car for a new motor and peripherals doesn't seem like a good idea to me unless you want to keep it for another 10 years.

Did you buy it from the dealer you took it to for this issue? Most used cars come with at least 90 days of warranty so I'd be raising all kinds of heck with them for selling you a piece of junk and tell them they need to buy it back or fix it under that used car warranty. Worst case, use that timing to cut a deal with them to trade it back to them for something else on the lot just to get out of it. They can replace a motor for a lot less than you can.

If you want to keep it though, it would also be a good time to put in a fully built motor and turn the car into a really fun street car. Just depends on how much you want to keep the car and how much you want to put into it.
