I recently sold a set of 2016 Z06 Chrome Rims on Facebook - I took off the car (12,000 miles) on Friday and the gentleman came to my house and inspected each rim front and back and agreed to buy. In my opinion, I priced fair value $1200 including Rims, center caps & TPM's. Today, he messages me and says that Discount Tire told him two were bent so he is requesting $300.00 back. I called Discount Tire and they told me the rims were bent a little but structually there is nothing wrong with them.
I am the type of person who is honest and would not try to pull one over someone but neither of us could see any flaws nor could tell that the rims were bent. I have not had any issues driving with them in addition, I always felts once you buy something, you buy AS IS.
What should I do? He has called me a spinless turd?
I am pretty sure there was no way you could have known of the imperfections. If it were me I would tell him to return the wheels for a full refund.
If he already had tires mounted and balanced then the defects were really not bad and he might be trying to just get a few bucks off.
Let us know how you make out.
Spinless turd, that is not nice! If it was me I would give him $150 and tell him to get lost. This is a tough one for a decent person. Not wanting to screw someone and yet not really trusting what is going on. No easy solution here.

If it were me, but its not. I would tell him to return the wheels and refund his $1,200.
Then you would see if he really thinks the rims are way bad. He is just trying to get some money back ...
I am sure you had no idea there was slight imperfections in the wheels, and I am sure any aluminum wheels have slight defects.
And this is a great approach as well! But Spineless turd, not the best approach!
If the understanding is the sale was AS IS, then he should assume the responsibility. If that wasn't clear, then I'd give the guy his $300, which is probably what it's going to cost him to have them trued up.

He should have checked BEFORE he bought them. Tell him to; take a hike, ya sissy!
I'd tell him that you had no issues with the wheels, no vibration or evidence of any bend in the wheels. Then I'd add that you called Discount Tire and they said there is nothing structurally wrong with the wheels and that the "bends" were slight. I'd offer him the $150 as stated above and make it clear from here on in they are his wheels, no longer yours.
He has had the tires mounted, he has since deleted me from the chat, I feel terrible about this and would have tossed them but the way he acted and the amount he demanded makes me wonder? Just not sure what to do, it is not the money but the fact he stated multiple times these wheels are excellent and in great shape.
Used wheels with 12,000 miles on them are not going to be perfect, nor can they be expected to be.
You did not represent them as better than they were, knew of no faults, and sold them in good faith. They worked fine for you with no problems.
The buyer had an opportunity to inspect and purchased what he thought he was buying - used wheels.
Discount Tire tells you they are structurally fine. They will work fine for the buyer with no problems.
Both sides of the transaction received what they bargained for. I appreciate your feeling you should respond to his complaint, but you never represented the wheels as flawless. The buyer is being unreasonable.
By the way, I have had two wheels straightened. I brought the car in, they took the wheels off of the car, tires off of the wheels, straightened them, put everything back - all for $150.00.
It's too bad he resorted to "name calling". Perhaps it could have been immediately resolved more professionallly. How did he come up with a $300 refund? I'd probably call Discount Tire back and ask them if they straighten wheels and if so, how much it costs. Then either split or pay the difference and get this guy off your back. Otherwise, he may ruin your future sales.
Thanks for all the input, I swear I knew nothing was wrong with these tires and never had an issues with them.
I have tried my best to be honest and upfront with any parts I have sold from my corvette just not one to leave stuff laying around when someone else could possibly used at a lower cost.
I have had problems with this from people over the years and I give them 2 options
1) return them for full refund as long as they are in same shape they left in
2) keep them and cry to someone else over your buyer remorse
I have had buyers take both options so I always offer a fair deal
So, Discount Tires....one of the largest companies in the tire and wheel market...mounted and balanced tires on these wheels and he has an issue with you?
Sounds like if the is any issue at all, Discount Tire is at fault. I seriously doubt they would mount them if there was an issue. I think they assume liability...especially if he got some sort of protection plan.
His brother is probably the person you spoke to.
I'm kidding in the last sentence, but you never know these days.
I agree to a point, how do I know that discount tire didn't bend these when putting the rubber tire on them?
At this point, I am going to leave alone, him acting like I sold in bad faith when in fact I allowed him to come to my home look at the rims and let him inspect each and every one should say something. As he said Karma is a b****, so I guess I will wait until she shows up.
I appreciate all the replies, as I mainly asked this question to clear my conscience.

He purchased them As Is! You gave him the opportunity to inspect them before purchasing. Who is to say how they were handled by himself and Discount Tire after purchasing them from you. If he is being rude over the deal, than I would tell him that they were sold as is at a fair price. Now if he was approaching you in a respectful manner trying to resolve a problem, than I would feel differently. Now if he has a serious attitude and is calling you a spinless turd, than I would not be willing to deal with him. Just put the transaction behind you and move on without any guilt.
The first thing is what does Bent Just a Little Mean? Several years ago I purchased a set of Repro rims that I used for tracking my C6Z. I had one tire installer tell me the wheels were bent and he showed me the wheels wobbling on the balancing machine. However, subsequent installers couldn't find anything wrong with them. They had about the same run out as other wheels they had worked with.
I also purchased a set of used C6Z from another forum member. I ran those wheels on the street for two years and then had a flat tire. A dealer mechanic had a tool slip when fixing the flat and the rim was gouged pretty severely. The Service Writer said they would send the wheel out for repair. The repair shop refused to repair the wheel because it was bent through the hub (not on the edge). In the two years, I had been driving with the wheel on the front of the car I never felt any wobble or unusual driving characteristics. The dealership replaced the wheel but let me keep the old one. I eventually had a tire mounted on it and used it on the track with no issues.
There are some people that overreact to every slight imperfection or hint of imperfection when there is no practical reason to worry about the issue other than to be a PIA.
There is no pleasing some people.. used is used and you gave option to inspect... not much more you can do... unfortunately situation could have been resolved amicably with sentient human beings.. but that person went to full *** mode.. I would not worry.. He could have been respectful and I would think outcome would have been better and this post would not be here..

Best advise. If you would have charged $400 more, would the buyer than be asking for more?
