Hello,
While I have the hood liner off to install the emblem I was wondering what method I could use to treat the liner, spraying the back or both sides with a silicone spray or something like 303 protectant ?
Any ideas ??
Thank you,
Rich
When my hood liner was air brushed it was heavily coated with high temp black paint, two full spray cans were used, in multiple coats, to create a good surface to air brush onto. After the mural was painted it was clear coated. That was two years ago and it still looks as good as the day it was painted. YMMV
Didn't do anything to mine before air brushing flags, now my older C5, I did shoot it with satin black and reglued some loose ends before having a local artist hand paint the flag.
OK, maybe its just me, but, I can't just leave things alone. How much harm could it do to just spray the " lower" 2 + inches with a silicone spray to prevent soap & water from soaking in after a wash and causing those horrid white stains like some of us have had ?
I did see the beginnings of a white stain on the very bottom 1 " of the liner when I removed it to install the emblem

The problem with underhood liner is it gets wet when it rains or I wash and then when it dries there are white lines from the mineral deposits left. looks like crap havent got it cleaned off yet

Exactly! How are you going to clean it? Protect it afterward?

That is why I am going to spray about 2 " of the lower portion with a silicone spray. The worse that can happen is that I will have to purchase a new liner if it ruines the liner, maybe by spraying it the water won't absorb, dry then turn white . Time will tell.

What are you going to use to clean it, to get the hard water off?
I "think" you can protect by spraying with almost any type of paint or sealer.
As my "sealer" I will use a silicone spray. My liner is in great condition, only the very bottom edge that was not visible when the liner was in place was just starting to turn white. I am pretty sure by spraying the bottom 2 inches it will do what I think, not let the water absorb and discolor the liner.

I put a new headliner in last year. I bought metal/painted cross flags that fits right in the stamped imprint of the hood liner. BUT...before I installed the flags and headliner, I coated both sides with scotch guard. Used almost a full can. Spray-dry-flip.....spray-dry-flip........repeat. I was her quite often and so far no new staining. I haven't done a full engine detail in a while...but I did brush and vacuum out the bay when I THOUGHT I had time to begin a detail. I took a brush attachment to the hood liner and that got a lot of the dust and crap off. I never made it to the step of hosing in. But the hood liner looks just as new as when I installed it last year....Scotch guard has held up well after 6 track days.
