Default Auto heat setting maybe not working

Hi all
when I set my temp to say 72 degrees it just blows out at a high speed. It never lowers down the fan speed. It blows out from the defogger. I just bought this 2016 1LT stingray. Am I doing something wrong? I thought it would maintain the temperature and adjust accordingly.

I don't drive mine in the winter but mine does the same thing in the summer with the AC. Blows at high speed all the time in Auto.

This is just a guess....but in the infotainment settings there is a setting for default HVAC fan speed. Maybe this has something to do with it

I just read my owners manual and it says "Press AUTO to turn the system on. Turn fan control **** completely counterclockwise to turn fan OFF." The system automatically controls the fan speed, air delivery, air conditioning, and recirculation in order to heat or cool the vehicle to the desired temp. My car is in hibernation till spring so I can't try it out and I don't remember if I ever had the fan control turned completely OFF this summer when I noticed the fan was always running full blast. I would manually turn the fan speed down but I don't think I ever turned it completely OFF. Maybe that's what needs to be done to have the fan self adjust.

With the Auto light On, the system is in "Complete" control of everything to maintain the Temperature it's set to.
It regulates the fan speed, air flow dash or floor, defog, Recirculate on/off, AC on/off.
But, when the Auto Mode light is on, you can hit the buttons to regulate where you want the air flow, dash only, floor only, or both, and Recirculate on/off.
Yes, when you do that, the Auto light goes out.
But,.. the system is still in Auto Mode but now it only controls fan speed and AC on/off to maintain the Temperature setting.

The only time the system will go Completely out of Auto Mode is by changing fan Speed manually.
That puts the whole system in Manual Mode, and you have to make "all" changes manually to maintain your Temperature setting.

Case in point:
In Manual Mode with fans set to high, temperature 72, the system will not maintain the Temperature if the Cabin Temperature gets higher or lower because Manual settings do not change.
So you have to Manually keep making changes to stay in your comfort zone.

After I turn On the Auto button, I press the button/s to direct air flow, dash, floor, or both, and the rest only makes changes Automatically to fan speed and AC on/off to maintain my Temperature.
From then on, if I need it warmer or cooler I only change the Temperature setting and the system Automatically maintains it with fan speed and AC on/off, but my manual settings for air flow etc stay the same.
At least that's how my 2016 2LT works for me.
Hope this helps

Thank you so much for a detailed explanation. I don’t have any manuals.

FYI, if you turn the Fan **** to Off, it shuts Off the whole system.
It takes the place of an On/Off Button.

As an aside, I recommend you get the manuals and read them cover to cover. My bet is there are some features that you would enjoy that you are not even aware of.
