I do not know about '72, but, in '68 it was $0.35, with an occasional gas war that took it down to $0.28. A skilled factory worker was making around $3.99. If you were a white shirt, businesses did not allow any other color, and were making your age, you were living the dream! In other words, Playboy Magazine expressed if you were 30, you should be making $30,000
There were no credit cards like Visa, etc. , as I recall. B of A card came out later.
